GBA's "2021 Stock Phantasma"

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by stonedinvestor, Jan 1, 2021.

  1. Folks I'm highlighting a week's work to show you what I do. Winner Winner chicken dinner. They just keep going! They keep coming.

When I get back to the city I'm going to get more money into my Etrade account and really knock you off your stools. You have no idea how I can run when I'm on a streak...

I'm trying so hard to end this thread... But there is so much to cover and only so much buying ability.... I'm going to have go hard core... They say concentrate into a few stocks- that's the only way to make money but... You See What I do... I can't help it. - The Savant.

  6. I'm just waiting for the storm now. Nothing yet. No cars on road. Quiet. Still. No bear. I am really scared about losing power. Just got a big lobel's meat order from NYC. They are talking crazy talk.. the town dude called (selectman) and scared the crap out of my wife. I am a weather watcher. I got this from my mother but I'm all about the weather and being worried about the weather- it's what I do-- And I say we escape this! Being NW Ct... we are far away from the sea shore... NYC got drenched last night the most rain in an hr EVER!!<--- Concert canceled.

We did NOT get that rain...

I'm feeding the birds and they are nervous. Chattering. It's Ok I tell them.

  7. I have another streaming recommendation- It's not easy. But I have started the HBO series Succession. They are long and feel even longer . Each one is like a kierkegaard movie. It's family stuff so it's very self loathing and all that in a good way, the actors are very good and the directing is top notch. Firsts two episodes make you want to jump out a window but I'm in a flow now, into the story line and doing about two a day... There's this question how the hell are they going to draw out this story line for THREE seasons!<-- it's almost a challenge but so far so good there is VERY good writing in this super annoying Private Investment lingo but his get's at and to the type of people I really despise in LA -these Private Equity Guys. Gross MF'ers. But really fun to watch from the outside. Lots of coke! ~si

I saw some recent companies mentioned here at GBA that I am familiar with so I just wanted to chime in. Stoney I literally lol at your response to turning on the pool heat as your preparation. It's all about being a comfort creature. Van mentioned some great prep tips. My wife's family is in Bridgeport and Waterbury, CT, so we are paying attention to the storm.

ACV is a great name for what they do considering in their world of Auto Insurance, ACV is the standardized abbreviation for Actual Cash Value which is what you are offered by the Insurance company when your vehicle is a total loss. It's a clever name for what they do.

Where I am currently employed, which used to have a sponsorship on side of an indycar as recent of this year, exclusively uses IAA. I don't see IAA company going anywhere anytime soon. They have a decent user system, plenty of exclusive contracts with insurance companies/tow yards and prime land. I don't know which is larger but Copart is heavily used by the large insurance companies like State Farm and Allstate. I don't think you can go wrong with either one if that's the sector you're looking at.

Early in my career I worked in the risk management department of Infrasource when they were acquired by PWR(Quanta) and I could tell that, just like Infrasource, had a great vision and company structure. Infrasource was more in the business of wind farms and underground construction(ditch diggers) and Quanta was in the above ground high tension lines business. I remember when the high alert came through when when Infrasource struck a water main downtown Atlanta and I had to jump on that to mitigate damages.

Enjoy your Sunday. It's time to take one of my boys to kart racing at K1.

    1) Vroom is not an auction Stoney. It's the sexy sister of Carvana if anything.

    2) Those lots are storage facilities for cars they broker between various parties. As such, you don't buy 100 acres of prime retail land next to a country club in major cities to store cars. You buy the cheap land zoned for mixed use commercial
    warehouse/distribution. :banghead:

    3) You know I like digging into old stocks, and I'm sure you must have played something that had to do with headlight dimmers... but I couldn't find anything.

But since I do like reading about that stuff:

From the "who really cares VZ?!" department...

GM was the first. The Autronic Eye

There have many other iterations since. Most done by the major automakers.

Citroen had some cool headlight stuff early on.
They actually had a lot of cool innovations that never really panned out.

Imagine when you apply your brakes to stop.... using the dissipation of that energy via spinning brake calipers to compress air inside a tank. Then when its time to go, instead of using gasoline for the first few seconds of acceleration, the time of max inefficiency for an internal combustion engine, you use that compressed air to get the car rolling. Gotta give the Frogs credit on that one. Pretty slick. Kinetic to potential energy. EV's do the same thing basically, except instead of charging a tank with air, that energy dissipation is used to charge the batteries a little.

    +++++++++++++++

Re $ABB... who gave up on ABB lol?!
    Not me.
Just because I don't boldface and trumpet the damn thing every-time it breaks 2% in a day...
$ABB remains a plank in the Gummies-4-Grandma portfolio.
It doesn't go anywhere fast though.

Thing about $PWR Stoney, its more of a grid pure-play, I mean if there is such a thing in that sector.

Had New England suffered mass power outages this weekend from Henri (speaking of frog names) ... $PWR bucket trucks and linemen would be on the scene w/i 24 hours getting the lights back on. Obviously there's more to the company than that, but... its a good solid stock. The kind PM's like.

    Quantum Services.
    $PWR
    $95

If we ever have another market crash... load up on the cheap.
