  4. Colonial Pipeline CEO confirms $4.4M ransom payment to DarkSide otherwise known as Van.
    • Colonial Pipeline CEO Joseph Blount tells The Wall Street Journalthat he authorized the $4.4M ransomware payment to the DarkSide ransomware-as-a-service group in order to quickly restore service to the pipeline.
    • Bloomberg sources previously reported Colonial Pipeline had paid a nearly $5M ransom in cryptocurrency, but this is the first official confirmation from the company.
    • The previous report said DarkSide had provided a decrypting tool, but the tool was so slow that Colonial Pipeline continued to use its own backups.
    • The CEO says he didn't make the decision "lightly" and "wasn't comfortable seeing money go out the door to people like this," but the choice "was the right thing to do for the country."
    • In its recent The State of Ransomware 2021 survey, security firm Sophos found that, on average, only 65% of encrypted data was restored after a target made a ransom payment. Only 8% of the targets were able to recover all of the encrypted data.
    • The survey found that energy, gas, and oil companies were the most likely industries to pay a ransom due to the massive downtime costs and disruption.
    • Related stocks: FireEye(FEYE-1.3%), CyberArk(CYBR-0.7%), CrowdStrike(CRWD+0.6%).
    • Recent news: Last week, DarkSide said it was retreating after its servers were seized and its cryptocurrency account was drained by an outside party.
Russia? Who Drained Darkside's account? That's a dinner guest!

  5. " Hopefully a year...."

Folks I don't see this ending well. I'm not coming back for no booster.....

Top FDA officials are uncertain over how soon COVID-19 booster shots are needed
    • The officials at the FDA remain uncertain over how quickly the fully vaccinated individuals for COVID-19 might need the booster shots.
    • So, hopefully, you know, it would be nice if it’ll turn out that it’ll be a year before anyone might need a booster,” Dr. Peter Marks was quoted by CNBC as saying at a virtual press conference with high school and middle school journalists. on Covid-19 vaccines.
    • Dr. Marks is the director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), the FDA unit tasked with licensing over-the-counter and prescription drugs including vaccine products.
    • “It could be more, it could be a little less but ... this is just something we’re gonna have to figure out as we go,” Marks said adding “but we still don’t know.”
    • Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock echoed similar remarks pointing out that the regulators and scientists are not yet sure on the extent of immunity decline before vaccinated people become susceptible to the infection.
    • “As far as variants go, we’re just going to have to determine that currently the immune response to these vaccines is being tested against all the variants to see how strong it is against each of the variants. And we just hope a variant doesn’t arise that can elude our vaccines,” Woodcock said.
    • However, Dr. Rochelle Walensky director Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has told CNBC last week that the U.S. was planning for a potential need of COVID-19 booster shots “just in case.”
    • The views by FDA officials appear to diverge from some of the recent statements made by COVID-19 vaccine developers.
    • Alfred Bourla, the CEO of Pfizer (PFE-1.0%) predicted in April that people might need a booster shot within six to twelve months after getting fully vaccinated. Pfizer partnered with BioNTech (BNTX-0.6%) to develop the first FDA-cleared COVID-19 vaccine.
    • Some scientists including Dr. Tom Frieden, a former director of the U.S. CDC, recently questioned such a need citing lack of evidence.<-- GIVE THIS MAN A VOICE!!!!!!!
