I knew it these guys have ruined the SPACS-- SPAC deal values pet-sitting platform Rover at $1.6B, but is that shades of Pets.com? Feb. 11, 2021 12:16 PM ETChewy, Inc. (CHWY) Is the SPAC boom getting its equivalent of hot stock Chewy(NYSE:CHWY)… or of dot-com bust poster child Pets.com? A Seattle company called A Place for Rover, which bills itself as “the world's largest network of five-star pet sitters and dog walkers,”announced agreement Thursday to a SPAC deal that will give the firm a $1.63B market capitalization. The 10-year-old company’s Rover.com platform connects pet owners with doggie day care, dog walkers, boarding and other services in 10 countries and boasts that it’d had “millions of services booked. Thousands of wagging tails.” Special purpose acquisition company Nebula Caravel Acquisition Corp. (NEBC) intends to acquire the company under a merger and $50 million private investment in public equity (PIPE) that will leave Rover with $300 million in unrestricted cash on the books. Plans call for the deal to close by June 30, with the combined entity called Rover Group and trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "ROVR.” “We believe that management has built an extraordinary business and we're excited to support them along their public market journey,” said Caravel CEO Adam Clammer, who’s also a founding partner of True Wind Capital, a private-equity firm that sponsored the SPAC.
