.... while the whole of ET debates GME...

I think we've found a big winner stoney.
Or I should say you have.

You know my theories on CEO's.
That explains the gap on 12/10.

    I like this guy.
    I like 20% short interest.

    This ones a granny stock.

    I think.

    I like the books.
I would like to see a larger increase in yoy revenue however.

That said.... I LOVE the whole Microsoft connection.

    Two paws up stoney!

  3. Stoney, VLDR or Lazr ? I am fascinated by lidar tech. Based on what I'm reading, it looks like lazr will have a bigger imprint upon transportation. Is there any reason to go long on vldr instead of lazr

  4. That is a tricky question.

I would lean towards VLDR. That being said Apple's foray into the Elec car or driverless car market is huge. Who would Apple use?

Apple had a test car that was spotted and it had Lidar units on all sides and then there was a follow up test ride and those units were hidden in a housing. The new Apple camera apparently has mini LIDAR who is the supplier there? Would Apple use their own home grown version?

Alphabet could be a player here as well... These companies are all SPAC's it looks like- so we have that to factor in/ worry about. For the most part both LAZR and VLDR have surprisingly little debt.

    To make maters more confusing.

California-based LIDAR firm Aeva will be merging with InterPrivate Acquisition Corp. in a deal valued at $2.1billion. The merger is set to close in first-quarter 2021, post which Aeva will be listed in NYSE under the ticker symbol ‘AEVA’. Backed by Porsche SE, Aeva has signed a sensor-system deal with Volkswagen VWAGY and announced a partnership with German-based auto firm ZF Friedrichshafen AG for the supply of 4D LIDAR, based on the frequency-modulated continuous wave technology.<-----

4D Me thinks any time they put a " 4 " with a tech concept that's the one!!! I do think 3D will be old hat soon enough!

Ultimately... I think I might wait for this Aeva.....

Between LAZR & VLDR concerning Apple... I would lean towards LAZR. So I'm kined of all over the place wiesman... I think VLDR the better "Value" LAZR the better " hope for Apple " and AEVA maybe just the best idea for me.~si

Two former Apple insiders are building a laser technology startup to fuel the electric car boom

Aeva co-founder and CEO Soroush Salehian — who spent several years at Apple developing the iPhone, Apple Watch and iPod — won’t say if the tech giant is working on an electric car with autonomous technology asmany have speculated in recent weeks.

But what he can proclaim confidently, is that four-year-old lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) play Aeva — which focuses on what Salehian calls 4D lidar — is primed to be the dominant name in the auto industry’s push toward autonomous cars. And perhaps over time, also supply its perception sensing tech to the consumer electronics industry to fuel their desire for spatial capabilities.

“What’s available out there is simply not sufficient to get to the next level of autonomous driving function,” Salehiantold Yahoo Finance Live. Salehian founded Aeva with fellow former Apple engineer Mina Rezk. It competes with several other upstart lidar companies that have recently come to public markets, including Luminar and Innoviz.

Added Salehian, “I do believe there will be an instance where I think the sensing space will transition from this typical 3D lidar to this 4D lidar technology as whole.”

Aeva announced in November its intention to merge with InterPrivate Acquisition Corp. in a SPAC transaction. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021. Before its debut on public markets, Aeva announced on Monday it raised $200 million from Hong Kong hedge fund Sylebra Capital.

The SPAC deal and Sylebra transaction will arm Aeva with about $563 million in cash right out of the gate.

Hummmmmmmmm..... oh wiesman! Now you are going to have me buying another SPAC thanks alot!

  8. The deal makes Aeva the third lidar technology developer to agree to go public this year through a deal with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), following Velodyne Lidar IncVLDR.Oand Luminar Technologies Inc.

The merger with InterPrivate, which values Aeva at more than $2.1 billion, will give it a cash injection of more than $300 million to develop sensors for phones, tablets and other consumer devices.

InterPrivate is a SPAC led by private equity investor Ahmed Fattouh. It raised $210 million in an initial public offering in February.

Founded by ex-Apple IncAAPL.Oengineers Soroush Salehian and Mina Rezk, Aeva makes a lidar unit that competes with Velodyne, Luminar and others to give self-driving cars a three-dimensional view of the road.

Aeva’s sensors also detect the speed of distant objects to help distinguish pedestrians from stationary features.

Aeva says its sensor does not rely on powerful lasers or exotic materials, which has helped it to shrink the cost and size of the device.<----! Different!!

The company has signed a sensor-system deal with an Audi-owned unit that is working on self-driving technology for Volkswagen AGVOWG_p.DEand is working with German automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG to have its sensors in mass production by 2024.

Aeva intends to use the proceeds from the InterPrivate deal to expand its sensor development to consumer electronics, Salehian told Reuters in an interview.

“We want Aeva inside not just highly assisted or autonomous vehicles, but across a number of applications,” he said.

    I'M GOING WITH THESE GUYS!

  9. An increasing number of devices, such as Apple’s new iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro models, include lidar sensors that help with applications such as augmented reality, in which digital content is overlaid on the real world.

The lidar sensors in current consumer devices, however, have an effective range of about 5 meters, Salehnian said. He said Aeva believes that it can develop a sensor by 2024 that will have an effective range of 30 meters or more. The company hopes to get the cost of the sensor down to about $10.

this morning i'm thinking about 5G because of my new stock holding Nokia NOK. It seems that Nokia has had a series of CEO's that have bet on the wrong technology which has screwed the next CEO who attempts to recover by finding a new wrong technology to bet on. Since September, Nokia has a new CEO with a new turnaround plan (GBA thread doesn't really mention Nokia until the new CEO came on and since then Stoney you've posted little things that they've started to do, like a google cloud thing etc). What I've read says that new CEO is making right decisions but Nokia is really behind on 5G and do they have the money to invest in order to recover ground.

There appears to be an opening for another 5G leader next to GBA favorite Ericsson ERIC because of bans on Huawei.

I'm thinking maybe enough WSB people keep their holdings in Nokia and it just putters along at elevated stock price. But what if they all sell and stock price drops to $4. Might be a nice opportunity?? Seems average price target is $4.37. Before WSB arrived, Nokia had a +15% trading day on 1/25 to rise to $4.85 based on a rating change. Nokia earning day 2/4/2021.
