Banning Alcohol at Australian Bank Would Be Difficult, CEO Says Mon, September 30, 2024 at 2:12 AM EDT 2 min read (Bloomberg) -- ANZ Group Holdings Ltd.’s Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott said an alcohol ban would be “difficult to implement” as the bank works to restore an embattled reputation following a series of scandals in its trading arm. While Australia’s fourth-largest lender hasn’t ruled out imposing such a policy after complaints of inebriated staff on the trading floor, it wouldn’t be easy to do so and maintain, Elliott told Bloomberg Television’s Haslinda Amin in an interview on Monday. Elliott said he’s “not encouraging the use of alcohol,” but prohibiting it would be complicated by the fact that “most of our people are in the business of dealing with customers, are going to events and lunches and all sorts of things.” The ANZ chief told lawmakers in a hearing in Canberra last month that the company’s board was re-examining workplace policies about alcohol use after disclosing that three people had left the bank following a number of allegations including at least one for drinking. Elliott wasn’t clear on Monday if the policy proposed to change rules around consuming alcohol in the office or simply drinking during work hours. He said that a ban on drinking alcohol for staff on the trading floor was “a reasonable thing to do,” but stopped short of committing to adopt it as a bank-wide policy.
When I used to meet with my trust officer at State Street Bank in Boston there was a certain red drink you ordered that had booze in it. But it was called some juice.. Beet Juice sir....
Good News- my wife ended up not being chosen for jury duty and we are free to go to Ct tomm after Bacchus' vet apt- and I can check on the pool and turn on the boiler/ drive the jeep. etc. Just a few days I have to be back in the city Thurs by 3:00.
Omg. You have been wrong on this thing twice now. I just remain mum. Hey I have a new strategy for the GBA posts.... I can just pick a highly volatile stock, quote it as a buy, and then wait until it goes up and quote myself as being a genius. You're right Stoney, you've taught me well. Watch how easy it is readers----> BROS @$32 Now if it goes down, we won't mention it. But six months from now, when it it hits $39 again... WE GO ALL CAPS WITH "ANOTHER HUGE GBA 30% WINNER." It's easy! Oh and btw Stoney... my in-box is filled with queries from the children that went short tech prior to 9/20. I had to tell them I had no part in this train-wreck of a call. Sorry. As much as I stick up for you, there's a limit on how far I can go to cover these asinine calls based on nothing from you. SPX---> 5762 QQQ---> $488 DOW---> Another record close. Next time listen to Van. We'll pull back some from here though. But as always, your market direction calls are sending folks to the poor-house. Traders demand the Magic Pencil. TIMING IS EVERYTHING STONEY!
Actually we shorted SHAK down quite a bit I peeled some off but didn't post about it so not taking credit. Up a good amount in pocket with the rest going back down we are doing well shorting SHAK. Thank Goodness. Nasdaq, S&P, Dow futures dip ahead of jobs, manufacturing numbers I just got off the phone with my guy at the HF. And he was traveling Europe! Not mad at me. It's amazing how I can personalize anything like a non returned email request for BVHN that I had to call into the desk for.. My mind always races.. Couple things: One I am surprised to find I own ZYME. He ran through my obscure holdings. I don't remember buying it which is a problem. Waiting on my CB there. Another thing. On TV I saw some talk about the next jobs number. Not this one the one right before the fed meeting. That one has alot of moving parts and could be overall a negative (minus) reading which would shock the market.. but the Fed knows these moving parts- some weakness due to be the terrible damage in North Carolina Etc.. storm related, but also the Dock workers.. and so what may happen is an release of an extremely bad number in front of a fed meeting and a resilient Fed going .25. That may not be taken well by the average Quant. You might want to save this post.
GENERAC- Well. They don't operate under water. Yikes. We know folks down in Asheville. They are OK. Baby fine. Generator basically destroyed. It's not sea water I don't think so maybe it will dry out but I see these GNRC units always leaning against homes on the ground floor and maybe they should somehow be elevated? Especially in flood planes.
