Maybe they're paying Mr. Riley to pump it. I bet he'll take whatever he can get at this point. Revenue's revenue.

Top lithium miners including Albemarle (ALB) and SQM (SQM) rallied Thursday, +6.8% and +4.7% respectively, as Chinese lithium futures prices reportedly hit five-month highs on potential supply cuts.

China's government has pledged a crackdown on price-cut competition, prompting expectations of supply-sidereforms in sectors plagued by overcapacity.

Lithium futures in China have been rising since last week, when a major lithium producer said it was halting production on orders from local officials.

China is expected to overtake Australia next year as the world's top lithium producer, according to a forecast from the Fastmarkets consultancy.

In relevant news, Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO) said Wednesday it signed a binding agreement with Chile's state-owned Enami to form a 51%-49%joint venture for the development of the Salares Altoandinos lithium project in Chile's Atacama region.

As part of the deal terms, Rio (NYSE:RIO) will contribute up to $425M in cash and non-cash resources, including its proprietary direct lithium extraction technology.

Meanwhile, Lynas Rare Earths (OTCPK:LYSCF) (OTCPK:LYSDY) reported a 68% Q/Q jump in production to 3,212 metric tons of rare earth oxide in the three months ended June 30, and a 38% surge in revenues to A$170.2M (~US$112M), while expressing optimism about benefiting from President Trump's efforts to loosen China's chokehold on critical minerals.

The company said it received an average selling price of A$60.20/kg, the highest since the July 2022 quarter, compared with A$42.30/kg in the year-earlier period.

Lynas (OTCPK:LYSCF) (OTCPK:LYSDY) CEO Amanda Lacaze said the unusual deal that saw the U.S. Department of Defense agree to invest in rival producer MP Materials sent a clear message that the U.S. is determined to rebuild a rare earth supply chain outside China.

The quarter was the company's first in producing more than 2K tons of neodymium and praseodymium, used in permanent magnets for electric vehicles and consumer electronics.

I've been recommending Lynas here for a long time. Up 82% the last year....

  7. In my view these announced trade deals are BS.

Get ready for a lot more of this:

The US-Japan trade deal may already be under pressure,as reports on Friday suggest the two sides disagree on how to split profits from Japan's $550 billion investment into the US.

President Trump announced the deal on Tuesday, which includes a 15% tariff on imported goods and a $550 billion Japanese investment. However, the sides do not seem aligned on profit sharing, with Japan seeking a split based on contributions while the US plans to keep 90%.

They are not even deals to start with. Every framework will be disassembled and we will be left with crumbs of tariffs. Maybe they add up to 10%-15% maybe they don't.
