As earnings season comes upon us I am uneasy. All I hear about is lower bars easily jumped over. Delta is a good example and they were rewarded. I don't like earning views on names based solely off how bad they previously guided. That old trick is well worn. I think delta's attachment to the overall economy helped it flash. But they are still $2 beneath the original forecast before the tariff scares. As for other names we shall see. While the S&P 500 was less than 1% away from a new high at Wednesday’s close, the median S&P 500 stock was trading about 12% below a 52-week high... Since 1972, the S&P 500 has posted below-average returns over the next one-, three-, six-, and 12-month periods when its all-time high coincides with fewer than 100 companies on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) also hitting new highs. At the last market high yesterday, 88 companies on the NYSE also hit a high.
Wedbush gets more bullish on Cinemark, upgrades shares » 07:06 CNK Imax capitalizes on Hollywood's box office rebound, CNBC reports 08:06 Read More IMAX, Superman has a stellar 86% Rotten Tomatoes score. ‘Superman’ movie review: James Gunn’s kinetic take sets the Man of Steel to soar With James Gunn’s happy mix of science and sorcery, this tale of the Man of Tomorrow, beautifully realised by David Corenswet, has a large heart and is endlessly entertaining to boot The song that plays over the end credits ofSupermanis “Punkrocker” by the Swedish group Teddybears (featuring Iggy Pop). It’s a musical bookend to a running joke between Superman/Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and his girlfriend Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). Lois claims she’s more credibly “punk rock” because of her journalistic cynicism. “I question everything and everyone,” she declares to Clark, while he trusts “everyone [he’s] ever met.” His response: “Maybe that’s the real punk rock.” This corny but sincere quip encapsulates both the spirit of the movie and the post-cynical zeitgeist of our moment. Call it metamodern oscillation or a vibe shift. Whatever the label, the gist is clear: Pessimistic, cynical deconstruction is out; optimistic, earnest joy is in. The trauma plot has given way to the triumph narrative: from defeatist to aspirational, can’t do to can do. The pendulum might still swing back and forth in this metamodern transition, but the momentum is decidedly in the direction of hope. More than just a reboot of the iconic Superman franchise, James Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel is a reset of the superhero genre as a whole. After decades of comic-book universes with ever more diminishing returns (both artistically and commercially), superhero fatigue is real. Audiences are ready for a factory reset. This movie gives it to them.
I've had more than one Hedgie say to me they are just going to ride this earnings season up and exit in August./ Clients Are Betting on Stock Rally Into Summer Before Pullback, BofA Says
According to Bank of America Corp. (BAC) strategists. Client feedback suggests “no one” is worried about the economy or equity valuations, strategist Michael Hartnett wrote in a note. A majority of them expect a forecast-beating second-quarter reporting season and for companies to pledge higher spending on artificial intelligence. Trading consensus is for more gains in the S&P 500 Index (^GSPC) into the Federal Reserve’s annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole in late August, Hartnett said. That is likely to be followed by a “healthy ‘back’n’fill’ correction.” WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CONTRARIAN-? Well, how about the correction comes now not later and Jackson Hole actually starts the rally not finish it.
Stoney! Day 3 of the VZ correction. You're welcome. As these things go as of late however, the dip buyers will be stepping in soon. SPX 6237
