Powering these Ai data centers would seem a huge strain on the system. Two names I'm thinking about are Quanta Power and Bloom Energy. With Quanta Karen F on CNBC brought the name up the other day as it has apparently been punished for some business problem but the rest of the biz is good with backlog. Not the best summery but something like that. PWR would seem at the arrow tip for stabilizing the grid. Bloom should be able to get into the mix. Bloom Energy --: Mizuho upgrades shares to Outperform from Neutral with a $26 price target, driven by positive risk/reward upside and a re-rating opportunity on new orders from utilities, data centers and other large load customers. Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) is the first mover and sole producer of at-scale solid oxide fuel cell technology, and where electric power availability is low, Bloom's (BE) product enables sites to have faster and more reliable power than waiting for a utility to add new electric service, Mizuho analyst Maheep Mandloi wrote in describing the company. Bloom (BE) enters long-term service contracts with their customers where 100 MW of product sales equates to greater than $1B of commercial value, and as demand grows for fuel cells, the company should experience growing margins and free cash flow while working down the cost curve, according to Mandloi. Costs and lead times for combined gas cycle turbine projects continue to trend higher, making Bloom Energy's (BE) fuel cells an attractive proposition as either a bridge or a long-term solution, Mandloi wrote; Bloom's technology can help meet power demand today, while CCGTs are sold out for 4-7 years, transmission upgrades are delayed by 7-11 years in some states, and lower emissions offer a faster time to market compared to backup generators, the analyst said. Mandloi also noted that Bloom (BE) has managed tariffs, as evident in reaffirmed FY 2025 guidance despite ~100 bps impact to gross margin from U.S. reciprocal tariffs.
