‘Fewer Choices and Higher Prices’: The Supply Chain of the Future

“The supply chain of the future will look like a multiheaded dragon,” said Bruno Jaspaert, the chief executive of the Vietnamese industrial-park owner Deep C Industrial Zones. “The era of sourcing from one global manufacturing base in the world is completely over,” said Jaspaert, whose sites are home to tenants such as the tiremaker Bridgestone.

Others such as Eric Zheng, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, said companies might sell less to the U.S. or pull out of the market altogether. With the new tariffs, “You’d see fewer choices and higher prices,” he said.

U.S. manufacturing employees earned around $103,000 on average in 2023 including pay and benefits, according to the National Association of Manufacturers, a Washington-based advocacy group. That is around four times the wage level in China and 2.5 times that in South Korea, according to ING.

“One thing is clear: Moving back to the U.S. at scale to avoid tariffs is not an option,” said Steve Lamar, president of the American Apparel and Footwear Association.

“Chinese factories have already relocated to Vietnam. The next place is jumping to India where tariffs are lower,” said Charles Kenny of the Center for Global Development, a Washington, D.C., think tank. Tariffs would have to be over 100% to make American workers competitive, he estimated.

***U.S. manufacturing employees earned around $103,000 // That turns into $0 in a bad recession.

  2. Someone told me AMZ immediately hiked the price of pods $10.

    Nespresso
Nestle SA’s (NSRGY) Nespresso coffee capsules may be sold worldwide — about 14 billion of them a year, according to estimates — but every one is still made in just three factories in Switzerland.

Imports from Switzerland to the US are facing a tariff of 31% (much higher than the neighboring EU). Nespresso global sales amounted to 6.4 billion Swiss francs ($7.5 billion) in 2024, Nestle figures show.

  3. The Senate budget resolution provides for at least $4 billion in spending reductions over a decade. That’s significantly lower than the $2 trillion target envisioned in an earlier House version.

    LOL rounding error?

  4. The budget also calls for using a gimmick to count the extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts — estimated to cost nearly $4 trillion — as $0 for official scoring purposes.

    Yea that will work.

  6. Ted there is some strange stuff going on over by Iran. First there was talk of a US spy plane acting erratically and looping back home. The GPS was fouled by some sort of attack that's the rumor.. Then ships started all losing their GPS..

Now we have placed some bombers nearby on an island. I forget he name Diego Garcia?> or was that a old boxer? We have some fancy planes there as a threat / negotiating piece for Iran
and Iran apparently has some new sort of radar/air defense...

  8. Shark’s CryoGlow Tool Our New Favorite LED Light Therapy Mask

It’s likely that you know Shark Beauty on the basis of its top-tier hair tools — such as the Shark FlexStyle hair styler, which boasts millions upon millions of views on TikTok, loads of rave reviews (including that of our editors), and lack of a learning curve. Now, folks, Shark is going a step above all this by boldly entering the skin care space, with the debut of its CryoGlow Cooling & LED Face Mask.

As part of the global product design and tech company SharkNinja (which is also behind home appliances like air fryers and espresso machines, as well as a line of bestselling robot vacuums), Shark Beauty launched in 2021 and immediately made waves. If the Shark FlexStyle — released in 2022 — is any indication, Shark produces industry-leading offerings in the beauty space and the CryoGlow Cooling & LED Face Mask is just the latest gem in its crown.
