U.S. Steel(NYSE:X)joined the chorus of steel company executives this week in characterizing falling steel prices and rising inventoriesas seasonal demand weakness that will soon dissipate, the Wall Street Journal reports. "We remain overwhelmingly positive," CEO David Burritt said on Friday's earnings conference call, even while noting the company's Q1 results probably will slip from its strong Q4 sales and profit growth. "Demand remains pent up for the markets we serve. Supply chain issues will ease. Inflationary pressure will abate," Burritt said. Yesterday, Nucor(NYSE:NUE)executives said the weakness in the steel market is only temporary, caused by supply chain and COVID-related disruptions that should correct as manufacturers ramp up to meet continued high demand. "The outlook and the demand picture across every end market Nucor serves remains very robust," CEO Leon Topalian said on Thursday's earnings call. U.S. Steel shares jumped 5.1% Friday after the company posted better than forecast Q4 sales and increased its stock buyback plan by $500M.
LNG Whatever happens with Russia and Ukraine undoubtedly Russia will react to sanctions by cutting off or slowing down Natural gas into Europe. This will force countries like Italy to burn coal which is a no no these days from a global perspective. ahem.... we could of made the embedded clue a little bit easier... The Smiths were my group back in the day, I saw them many times. Morrissey was the poet rock star. Once back to back Boston & NYC. At the NYC show I was close to the stage. In Boston I was up in a second level. At the Boston show kids jumped on stage and got to dance around the band and stand next to them and it looked like so much fun! It was this wonderful inclusive moment I will never forget. So there I was in NY looking directly up at Johnny Marr my guitar hero at the time even if he wasn't that good... And he was looking at me. And I waited and I wanted to be the first to get the whole crowd going and so I waited and Johnny kind of gestured at me like come on up... or so I thought he may of been tuning... then I went for it, I put one leg up on the stage and there was a metal rail that ran across the stage and I got up and I was standing next to Johnny my hands in the air so free and WHAM! This huge bouncer ran out and shoves me head over heels off he stage and I go flying back with one of my feet stuck in the damn rail and next thing I know I'm hanging upside down with all the drugs now moving the wrong direction... and I was hanging there a fool with a near broken ankle and my poor wife who was my girlfriend then had to watch me go around the back of the venue afterwards and challenge all the bouncers to a fight; several f them moved me down the street. All in all not a pretty scene but a reminder that MEAT is Murder!!!!!!!
