GBA Presents: THE GREEN MARKET

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by stonedinvestor, Sep 13, 2021.

    • Yum Brands' (NYSE:YUM) KFC started selling its Beyond Fried Chicken menu item yesterday in a highly-watched partnership with Beyond Meat (BYND +4.3%).
    • The chain is offering the plant-based fried chicken in six and twelve piece orders, as well as part of a combo meal.
    • Eater.com says when Beyond Fried Chicken is dunked into the signature KFC Sauce it is pretty indistinguishable from a nugget that is made with actual chicken. The flavor is observed to be appropriately meaty and seasoned well, although the texture is not a perfect match with real chicken. KFC is making clear that Beyond Fried Chicken is not being made specifically for vegans and vegetarians since they are being made on the same basket, griddle or area as meat items
This move hurts the brand. If KFC actual chicken tastes tasteless which it does -- saying this plant crap tastes just as bland.... That's going to hurt the bottom line. I would consider shorting KFC on this news.

  3. Apparently late last week the Gov began giving out test kits contracts. I did not get one yet.

It's abit complicated as the tests bought have to be one's not already ordereed by CVS and Duene Reed etc. WMT.

Now masks. I would think this is a 3M story:

    • The health officials under the Biden administration are weighing whether to offer high-quality masks such as KN95 or N95s, for all Americans, Politico reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
    • The move comes as COVID-19 cases spike across the country fueled by more contagious Omicron variant, and amid mounting evidence that cloth masks used by many throughout the pandemic are less protective against the new variant.
    • Last week, a group of health experts including three former advisors during the Biden transition announced plans for a revamped COVID-19 response that included making N95s or KN95s “readily available to all U.S. residents for free or very low cost.”
    • Some officials in the administration led by Surgeon General Vivek Murthy have backed an initiative to distribute high-quality masks for all those who require them. They are reportedly pushing for a decision as soon as Thursday, the publication said.
    • Notable masks and PPE makers Alpha Pro Tech (APT +3.5%), Allied Healthcare Products (AHPI +2.2%), Ulta Beauty (ULTA +0.7%) Lakeland Industries (LAKE +0.1%) are trading higher in the afternoon hours.

I heard a Warren B. adage the other day I had never heard before. Something to the effect of" never buy a food/restaurant stock until you taste it. Berkshire owns Dairy Queen. Talk about a place that needs a facelift. I could never understand why he bought that one. It's private.

SHAK is up 15% on the day. I had no idea they reported today either. I might have joined you on that one.

  8. Walgreens CEO 'expects to move quickly' with Boots strategic review 14:46 WBA Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Rosalind Brewer said during a presentation at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference: "Now, we are announcing that we have initiated a strategic review of the Boots business. This review is very much in line with our renewed priorities and strategic direction. In particular, our increased focus on U.S. health care. While the process is at an exploratory stage, we do expect to move quickly. The review is focused on our successful Boots business, including the number seven beauty company, and is happening against a backdrop of very strong results. As we noted with our earnings last week, Boots is growing strongly and driving international AOI growth of over 88% in the first quarter. For fiscal year 2022, Boots will be the major contributor to drive our international segment sales up 9% to 11% and segment AOI up over 50%. I believe that exploring our options is the right thing to do for all of our stakeholders. That includes our people, our customers, our patients and also our shareholders. We will share more on this process in due course."

This sounds like a spin off coming.!
