settlement $'s? Sonos(NASDAQ:SONO)is 0.5% highertoday after giving up some earlier gains following a victory at the International TradeCommission in a fight over patents with Google(GOOG-0.7%,GOOGL-0.7%) - and Morgan Stanley says the win brings Sonos a bit closer to monetizing its intellectual property. The ruling is "further proof that Sonos has industry-leading IP that they can successfully defend in court," analyst Katy Huberty and team write. It might not bring any direct monetary benefit - the ITC only implements trade-related rulings - but it proves two important points, Morgan Stanley says. First, "Sonos indeed has industry-leading audio technology IP," and second, "they can successfully defend said IP against competitors they believe unfairly infringe upon their technology." Sonos has defended IP and negotiated licensing deals with smaller competitors, but Google is of a different scale, the firm says. The audio company now has more negotiating power to either work out a licensing deal out of court, or use the ruling to strengthen its court case against Google (currently stayed) in California's Central District - where it could gain monetary rewards in the form of damages or an ongoing license payment. One caution is that Google appears willing to keep making its case, meaning a negotiated settlement is the best case scenario vs. a protracted patent-infringement battle that could last years. Morgan Stanley has an Overweight rating on Sonos with a $49 price target, now implying 69% upside.
Roblox slides after taking down China app to build new version 11:14 RBLX, TCEHY Shares of Roblox (RBLX) are down about 7%, to $6.20, to $83.00 after Reuters reported that the LuoBuLesi app, which the company launched in July in partnership with an affiliate of Tencent Holdings (TCEHY), was shut down on December 8 and now shows users a message thanking them for using the test version when they log on. A Roblox spokesperson told Reuters late on Thursday that the move was necessary as the company builds the "next version of LuoBuLeSi," but did not say when the app would return, according to the news service's report. "We always knew that building a compelling platform in China is an iterative process, and we are thankful for the support of LuoBuLeSi users and our global developer community. It is critical that we now make the necessary investments, including investments in our data architecture, in order to realize our long-term vision," a Roblox spokesperson is quoted as having said

Now Sonos.... Stoney, even if they get a settlement, that's what's called a one time gain. It's just like a one time loss. Analysts don't really care all that much. Unless its paid out as a special dividend, which I strongly suspect Sonos won't do lol. It's a business, an ongoing operation. You don't base future growth on today's legal windfalls. Now if that ruling applies to their model going forward, then it's something to consider. That, and hopefully they'll reinvest the windfall into the company. So it might be a slight positive... depending on how astute their management is with the dollars in, dollars out, aspect of growing profits per dollar spent. Is this the speaker company btw? Lol...
