Now is the time for long extension cords and some sort of flood lights. It sounds like you have a lot going on so worry about the repair later. Watch for when they come so you can escort them. Lend out flashlights. The most important thing is letting them know that it will be dark and tell them to walk slow or usher them. Happy Thanksgiving to GBA Community!!
Hey Stoney.... We talked about this earlier, but come on man.... Tell me that had Urban Outfitters went to $45 instead of $42, you wouldn't be here crowing... "GBA and Stoney does it Again"!!! (in boldface 7 font) You throw out 30 stocks per day and then claim savantness when one hits. ... Just keepin' it real bro. Whatever. PSTG was a good call though. As was my INCREDIBLE VMW call this AM pre-market. Anyhoooose.... The only reason I logged back in was because I read the post about the light bulb. If you say the breaker didn't fix it, then there is absolutely only one thing it can be. Obviously over the years you have struggled with this hanging bulb. Right? I suspect the two wires coming out of the top have over time have experienced receding insulation, for lack of a better description. Like hairlines lol. When you were taking it out this time and you were moving it around, the wires hit and popped the breaker. Thing is, this time, those two wires may still be touching each other, hence resetting the breaker won't work as it will immediately pop. I bet anything that's what's going on. Climb up there and with a pair of decent wire-cutters, cut the wire going to the light. Inspect it when your done to make sure its a clean cut and the two feeds aren't pinched or touching in any way. Then go see if the breaker resets. I bet it will. Easy fix after that obviously. So my guess is the short is still at that fixture. Remove the short, and Granny/Grampy Stoney will have lights on the driveway. Happy Thanksgiving Stoney.
I'm a handyman and he should heed my advice. I take it that stoney tries to do some things around the house himself but when it gets involved, he hires someone because it's a risk:reward thing. You might be correct that he twisted the wires too much and caused a short. But with family coming over and other things going on, now is not the time to be fixing electrical connections. Enjoy time with the family and use candles if necessary.
Well, you have a point and that did cross my mind, but I figured snipping the wire, (assuming the breaker's popped lol), is pretty easy and even Stoney can't f that one up. Go back to some old threads. I've held his hand thru various fixes at his CT money-pit. Boiler, pool, AC, Septic, mice.... I think its the only reason he keeps me around. But you're right. And had he not lost all that money on that weed stock which is at $2 and was at $5 last week... had he listened to the Savant and got out.. ditto APPS from $71 to $51 in a week...he could hire a team of SMR engineers from Rolls-Royce in the UK to fly over tonight (business class)... and get the light fixed before the Stoney clan even shows up for the Jets game tomorrow.
Haha yes those older homes do have their issues but the coziness factor of having a well built plaster/lathe home is hard to beat.
Regarding APPS- yea I screwed up. I have a hard time reflectively selling tech because the bond market rate is going up. This is an Algo thing you cannot fight high tech with high PE's get killed. I should of avoided tech. My thoughts on the market: I see a different picture - rates don't go up that fast, and growth slows to the point that high growth comes back in favor. I believe we close out this Christmas season with these high growth names flying. But ironically other areas of the market falling. Regarding APPS itself it's such a tough call-- they actually can be viewed as somewhat of a value.. it's not like they are going out ofbusiness believe me.... and I would not turn to them as a first sell of over priced ideas in the market, there is fat on that bone.. but it's a risk I got nailed on. I have 150 shares and I most likely will buy 150 more when I'm confident in the direction of these tech stocks. Flashlights for sure. Big Time for Grandpa Bob. Yea I messed up doing this with the switch on position. Big time. I'm surprised it also took out my outside spots which are controlled by the next over switch...which means I zapped the control panel there by the door. I think the problem now is going to be in the switch itself which has some protective breakers or something inside. I think. Slow News day Today Let's Do This...! Stoney!!!!! Did you get the light figured out? What does this mean? The control panel by the door? What is that? Do you mean the light switches? I assume that place has been rewired, but I am not 100% sure about the code. Depending on who rewired it, is there a chance they could have put all those outdoor circuits on one line? The reason I ask, you could have a GFCI plug out there on your porch that perhaps includes the line that light is on. You may have just popped the GFCI, that's one of those outlets that have the 2 buttons on them that you'll see anywhere in a house where the plug is near a water source. I didn't think you could put a light on the same circuit, but like I said, the contractor might have cut corners or it may be ok per the code. I don't feel like looking it up atm lol, but when the place was rewired, I'm 100% sure any circuits that go outside or are on a porch that is somewhat detached from the original structure.. those all have to have one GFI somewhere in that line. So look for an outlet that has those push-buttons.
