As the stock market hits record highs last week, retail, hedge fund and institutional investors were net sellers, according to BofA Securities' latest client flow survey. The S&P(SP500)(NYSEARCA:SPY)notched its fourth-straight winning week, but clients were net sellers, -$1.6B, for the fifth consecutive week, pushing the four-week flows average negative. Institutional investors were the biggest net sellers, suggesting continued tax-loss selling, BofA says. "Sales of both Consumer sectors were near record levels in our weekly data history, with big outflows from all three client groups," BofA strategists Jill Carey Hall and Savita Subramanian write. Consumer Discretionary(NYSEARCA:XLY)had the biggest outflows last week, followed by Consumer Staples(NYSEARCA:XLP). One reason the sectors may be out of favor is the rise in crude prices.
