  3. Here are some fun facts about Polaris-

PII's balance sheet is a fortress and is expected to get steadily safer over time.

PII has a very safe 2.5% yielding dividend, which has been raised every year for 27 consecutive years

    However--

Polaris (NYSE:PII) presents a balanced risk/reward opportunity to investors at present, according to Jefferies.

Jefferies analyst Anna Glaessgen wrote in an initiation note on Tuesday that while Polaris (PII) can be consideredas a “safe harbor” in powersports, worsening consumer sentiment, persistent supply chain problems, and decelerating spending diminish the security of the stock. Overall, this leaves the stock likely range-bound, in her view.

“We believe Polaris deserves credit for shifting focus back toward its leadership in global powersports, seen not only in word but also in decisive action. In our view, this strategic refinement will ultimately benefit fundamentals as well as valuation, as the market rewards streamlined, clean stories,” Glaessgen explained. “However, these positives are balanced, in our view, by a challenging macro backdrop and signals of consumer health degradation.”

She added that while the pandemic caused outdoor recreation demand to surge, benefiting Polaris (PII), an increase in available activities after reopening stands to soften this growth trend.

She set a $105 price target for shares and initiated coverage on the stock at a “Neutral” rating.

I counter that by pointing towards--

In its 1Q22earningscall, the world "supply" was mentioned 55 times.

Summing up our first quarter performance by segment, it is clear that supply chain disruptions were the main driver for our sales, share, and earnings performance this quarter.

These constraints are getting resolved in my view...

and Next year, Polaris is expected to do $665 million in free cash flow. This translates to 10.3% of the company's $6.4 billion market cap. That's very high and uncommon as in these times, it's mainly energy companies that report double-digit free cash flow yields.

SUMMATION-- Van you were right the first time and should of been rewarded.

Polaris may indeed be range bound due to world conditions but when it does bust out it will be to the upside.

  4. 'Fortress' companies like Polaris can succeed in this economy, but speculative stocks have further to fall -

    It's an idea anyway-

Strategas Research Partners CEO Jason Trennert argued Tuesday that well-established companies that are able to generate their own capital can succeed in the current economy. However, he sees more speculative names as vulnerable as rising interest rates constrain their abilityto raise funding.

"There are good companies out there. The economy is still strong enough, in my opinion, that good companies can execute," Trennert told CNBC.

    Polaris?

"These are fortresses, these are blue chip companies that have permanent capital," Trennert observed, although he saw potential signs of weakness elsewhere in the market, as investors looked beyond the top layer of solid players.

"There's an awful lot of companies still out there ... that are quite speculative and, in my opinion, that's where the real issues are going to come for investors," he said.

As a result, Trennert predicted that the major U.S. equity averages would eventually head to new lows. He characterized the recent bounce, which has taken the market off of 52-week lows reached in June, as a rally in a bear market.

The Strategas CEO projected that the Federal Reserve would need to keep raising interest rates to tamp down inflation, a process that will put a strain on companies that require easy access to capital markets to survive.

    That's not Polaris.

Meanwhile, Trennert doesn't expect the Fed to back off its elevated interest rates next year, as it will need to hold higher rates in order to decisively defeat inflation. He noted that a slowing economy will also drag on the stock market.

  6. I pretty much agree except for the last paragraph:

Meanwhile, Trennert doesn't expect the Fed to back off its elevated interest rates next year, as it will need to hold higher rates in order to decisively defeat inflation. He noted that a slowing economy will also drag on the stock market.

    ------------------------

What is actually happening is the Fed is using larger rate increases to get to a spot where he can gradually reduce rates 1/4 each time. Yellen ran into this problem of not hiking fast or with enough heft to have and wiggle room she was exposed for not having fire power.. These .75 raises are to get us quickly to a point where the Fed can reverse.

    That is bad for inflation.

That is what is going to happen the double dip comes ironically when the Fed starts reducing rates-- that re stokes inflation...

The Fed will blink when the recession truly hits and jobs go into the dumpster... And that will be very bad for the market.
