What keeps me up at night. The VIX manipulation and the 200 day average. I don't scare easily. Part of that invincible feeling comes from having a large dog. I'm also good with my hands. I have heavy hands. But none of that can protect me from what's happening now with the VIX. First Thing-- NOT CONFIRMED-! But I was in a bar with a HF guy and he said that a whale had taken out a huge option bet on the VIX that it would go to a really scary high number that I have forgotten and I think the wager was $5mil. That's bad enough. Now comes word that people are using the VIX the way they used individual stocks buying short dated calls. In the last month this activity was up a startling amount. All the kids are doing it... Great... do they know the result of this action? If this artificial inflation method, worked with stocks why wouldn't it work with the VIX? That keeps me up at night. The AI computers know only what they are told by the Quants. The 200 day average is so ingrained here as a marking post that any good close beneath it will create a whoosh. Now in normal times that would be Ok that would be your break and sell that cleans the market out and the index could quickly regain it's upward trajectory. But that's when the markets participants are evenly dispersed between Bulls and Bears. That is not the case now, way too many Bears and they will add to the carnage if we lose the 200 day. That keeps me up at night. The girl at the gym. She keeps me up at night.
