I wonder if Trump's endorsement of Romney is his way of getting back at him for his not willing to participate in Trump's proposed debate gala.

I'm wondering where they are getting the info. IMO, pure speculation. He only endorsed yesterday, so when would the polls have been conducted? All polls posted today have Romney gaining, not losing.

I don't think the endorsement changes things at all, except that he might write a check to the Romney PAC.

Endorsements from private citizens are completely overblown. The are pretty inconsequential. The only endorsements that ever make a difference are key political endorsements from guys like Marco Rubio, Ron Paul, Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton, etc who have loyal supporters that will follow their guy.

    Yep.

Why in the world would Romney or Gingrich seek the endorsement of Donald Trump?

Romney needs another stratospherically rich guy to endorse him?

He should be seeking the endorsement of Joe the Plumber if you ask me.

  5. My point is that it looks really bad to be getting this endorsement smack in the middle of all the other stuff about him being "rich and out of touch". If you're running his campaign, the idea should be to lower the volume on this stuff. This just raises it even more.
A stupid mistake, and one easily avoided.

First off, nobody is gonna turn down a billionaire donor. I don't care who it is. I would bet that it was Trumps decision to do it now, not the Romney staff.

Second, it turned out to be a five minute event with almost no speech or photo op. That is as down played and small as you can get with Trump.

  7. Obama is likely win re-election easily.

Incumbent presidents get re-elected 70% of the time overall, and virtually 100% of the time when the public's perception of the economy is good, or at least that it's improving.

If the economic numbers (particularly employment) continue to improve from now through the summer, no one can beat Obama.

Yes, but I don't think it's a plus for Romney in the longer run if he hopes to court "disillusioned" Democrats and Independents. Also, I don't think it gives him any meaningful traction with so-called moderate Republicans, which I presume is his base. He might get some additional crazies, but at what cost?

I dunno. Carter was in a similar pickle to where Obama is and it didn't work out all that hot for him.

Complete non-issue in the long run. Trump's endorsement will hardly even be mentioned after this week. Except for by Trump himself.
