I have added a BCAA supplement to the mix and have experienced outstanding results in stamina/endurance and considerably less muscle soreness post workout. Honestly, it's almost unbelievable. I do have a couple questions though. I purchased this at GNC and the brand is CELLUCOR. Price was 50 bucks for 30 servings which are 11g each. I saw cheaper choices and was wondering what the real differences are, and what you guys use? Secondly, I'm taking this about 1 hour after eating 1 hard boiled egg for breakfast. Then I go to the gym. Does that 1 egg have any significant deterrent to how this works?
For me, the difference between these products aren't the main ingredients; it's all the fine print stuff they add to the main ingredients. The reason I go with Vintage Build BCAAs versus so many others out there is because they don't use artificial sweeteners (sucralose, aspartame, etc.), artificial flavors, and artificial colors (FD&C whatever color). Unfortunately Cellucor does use the artificial ingredients I just mentioned. My personal belief is that it's always best to avoid that stuff whenever possible. When it comes to certain supplements, sometimes there just aren't viable alternatives with natural additives, but in this case there is so that's what I based my decision on.
By eating the egg, you are putting protein into your system and your body is breaking that protein down and releasing the resulting amino acids into your system. The amino acid profile from the egg is going to be quite a bit different than the profile of your Cellucor BCAA's. Eating the egg is not a deterrent to how the additional BCAAs will work. The optimal setup for fat burning would be to skip the egg completely and sip on your BCAAs while working out.
Thanks for the info Baron. This thread has been very helpful. For the past couple of months I have been flat lined in my workouts and just couldn't get to another level. I'm trying to go from a guy in fairly decent shape(for my age) to a guy in great shape. What I've learned here the past couple weeks just might give me the edge I've been looking for. Thanks again. Thanks to all who have contributed by sharing their experiences.
Have any of you guys heard of the Big Five exercise routine? This is not to be confused with the popular 5x5 workout. It involves only one set to failure of 5 different compound exercises -- once a week. That's a bit too much of a paradigm shift for me given my workout roots stemming from the '70s, but I'm curious to know if anyone here heard of it or possibly even tried it? http://conditioningresearch.blogspot.ca/2009/03/interview-with-doug-mcguff.html http://www.amazon.com/Body-Science-...p/0071597174/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 Despite my initial skepticism, I'm ordering the book. Just to be on the safe side.
Same here regarding results. I'm using ON's pro BCAA. I bought them on sale for 25 bucks at VS. Kind of pricey...20 servings, however, I take only half the recommended amount, so I'm getting 40 drinks per jar. Weight down to 194 yesterday (my target for this last weekend was 192-195, so I made it). Looking for 190-192 by this coming Sun.
The emergency crew just left today with all their drying equipment. They pretty much tore the place up so it's going to be a while before everything gets fixed.
I would like to add that I haven't missed any workouts though. I moved my bench, dumbbells, and a few other items into the family room and I have been working out there temporarily. Whenever I face setbacks in life like this that threaten to disrupt my daily exercise, I alter my workouts so that they are brief, intense and super simple. My current workout is about ten exercises, one set per exercise to failure in the 15 -20 rep range, and all exercises can be done with dumbbells and bench. The workout covers the whole body and actually gives you a damn good pump believe it or not since the rep range is high. I am putting the rubber floor back down in the gym today and cleaning everything up the best I can. I figure it's realistically going to be a few weeks before the reconstruction starts so I'm going to move the equipment back in there tomorrow and get back to my normal workouts for the time being.
Cool. I was going to ask what type of floor you were putting down(had before the accident). Good luck. Do you know what caused the water line break (was it a fire sprinkler system)? You can always tell the contractors to let you carry the heavy stuff in for a little extra training. Especially the drywall!
