Excellent question, good computer programming skills (C++, Python, etc...) give the trader a tremendous edge : he can test any trading system first without risking any money.

  2. Is it a good idea to start automated trading if you are still new in Forex trading?

    I wouldn't think so, lol.
Not new to trading setups by hand. They sometimes include currency futures
AUD, EUR, GBP, JPY from time to time. Never forex.

As to your question, for a new trader who follows a sensible path to automated
trading, it would seem to be imprudent and neglegent to walk away from a strat
running headlong with real cashola and expect to be happy with that in the long run, lol.

A track record is a good, no, the only place to start regardless of whether trading
setups by hand, autotrading a strategy of some sort, or hiring somebody to
trade your money for you imho.

compare with other financial products like index futures, fx tends to move just a little.
and it tends to move during the European session.

So those staying in Asia and the US should be able to trade fx part-time.

How about those staying in Europe?
    Good news!
You can trade other things like index futures part-time.

    Whether you trade full time or part-time, the strategies are the same;
buy low sell high / sell high buy low.

No, I was not a programmer. My education is in finance and economics. But I had programmed for a while as a hobby.

I probably spent a year or so trading with play money and another year or two with extremely small positions before I started to scale up and make decent money.

Just to clearify, it is not about one great idea that is a sure moneymaker that I just had to code. I started with a extremely simple moving average that lost money and expanded gradually during hundreds of iterations with play money. Then I started carefully with real money

Always and in everything you need to know the measure and understand the reality that we are facing.

  9. I'm a bit biased, but I recommend a VPS to trade from because it allows you to take your entire trading setup everywhere you go, and on any device. For example if you're at your full time work, then pull up your trading setup on your phone.

Indeed, it is very important to find a strategy for yourself with which you can work part-time.
