futures options taxes

  1. Anyone know if the 60/40 tax treatment applies to options on futures as
    well? For example,if i sell a put or call option on a futures contract and it
    expires worthless or i buy it back at a profit,is the premium received or the
    profit gained taxed as 60% long term gain and 40% short term gain?
     
  2. yes it is the same...and the same for the OEX as well, but from my understanding not the same for the QQQ or SPY...don't ask me why...and check one of Ted Tesser's books to make sure...
