Futures Day Traders

I have a question pertaining strictly to daytrading futures.
Is it common to daytrade the front contract right up to expiration day or is it common to start trading the next contract after rollover day?
I think I know the answer but I had to ask.

 

keep trading the old contract until rollover day

 

Start trading the "Z" contract tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 9:30 AM.
