Future of American Cities

  1. From my brother.......

Be prepared.....this could be the future of all major cities - - -

Food for thought: For 15 years, from the mid 1970's to 1990, I worked in Detroit, Michigan. I watched it descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, gangs and human depravity. I watched entire city blocks burned out. I watched graffiti explode on buildings, cars, trucks, buses and school yards. Trash everywhere! Detroiters walked through it, tossed more into it and ignored it.

Tens of thousands and then, hundreds of thousands today exist on federal welfare, free housing and food stamps! With Aid to Dependent Children, minority women birthed eight to 10 and in once case, one woman birthed 24 kids as reported by the Detroit Free Press — all on American taxpayer dollars. A new child meant a new car payment, new TV and whatever mom wanted. I saw Lyndon Baines Johnson’s “Great Society” flourish in Detroit. If you give money for doing nothing, you will get thousand over thousand more hands out taking money for doing nothing.

Mayor Coleman Young, perhaps the most corrupt mayor in America, outside of Richard Daley in Chicago, rode Detroit down to its knees. He set the benchmark for cronyism, incompetence and arrogance. As a black man, he said, “I am the MFIC.” The IC meant ‘in charge’. You can figure out the rest. Detroit became a majority black city with 67 percent African-Americans.

As a United Van Lines truck driver for my summer job from teaching math and science, I loaded hundreds of American families into my van for a new life in another city or state. Detroit plummeted from 1.8 million citizens to 912,000 today. At the same time, legal and illegal immigrants converged on the city, so much so, that Muslims number over 300,000. Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan, but most work in Detroit .

As the Muslims moved in, the whites moved out. As the crimes became more violent, the whites fled. Finally, unlawful Mexicans moved in at a torrid pace. You could cut the racial tension in the air with a knife! Detroit may be one our best examples of multiculturalism: pure dislike and total separation from America .

Today, you hear Muslim calls to worship blare via loudspeakers over the city like a new American Baghdad with hundreds of Islamic mosques in Michigan, paid for by Saudi Arabia oil money. High school flunk out rates reached 76 percent last June according to NBC’s Brian Williams. Classrooms resemble more foreign countries than America. English? Few speak it! The city features a 50 percent illiteracy rate and growing. Unemployment hit 28.9 percent in 2009 as the auto industry vacated the city.

In this week’s Time Magazine October 4, 2009, “The Tragedy of Detroit: How a great city fell and how it can rise again,” I choked on the writer’s description of what happened.

“If Detroit had been savaged by a hurricane and submerged by a ravenous flood, we'd know a lot more about it,” said Daniel Okrent. “If drought and carelessness had spread brush fires across the city, we'd see it on the evening news every night. Earthquake, tornadoes, you name it — if natural disaster had devastated the city that was once the living proof of American prosperity, the rest of the country might take notice.

But Detroit , once our fourth largest city, now 11th and slipping rapidly, has had no such luck. Its disaster has long been a slow unwinding that seemed to remove it from the rest of the country. Even the death rattle that in the past year emanated from its signature industry brought more attention to the auto executives than to the people of the city, who had for so long been victimized by their dreadful decision-making.”

As Coleman Young’s corruption brought the city to its knees, no amount of federal dollars could save the incredible payoffs, kick backs and illegality permeating his administration. I witnessed the city’s death from the seat of my 18-wheeler tractor trailer because I moved people out of every sector of decaying Detroit .

“By any quantifiable standard, the city is on life support. Detroit 's treasury is $300 million short of the funds needed to provide the barest municipal services,” Okrent said. “The school system, which six years ago was compelled by the teachers' union to reject a philanthropist's offer of $200 million to build 15 small, independent charter high schools, is in receivership. The murder rate is soaring, and 7 out of 10 remain unsolved. Three years after Katrina devastated New Orleans, unemployment in N.O. hit a peak of 11%. In Detroit , the unemployment rate is 28.9%. That's worth spelling out: twenty-eight point nine percent.”

At the end of Okrent’s report, and he will write a dozen more about Detroit, he said, “That's because the story of Detroit is not simply one of a great city's collapse. It's also about the erosion of the industries that helped build the country we know today. The ultimate fate of Detroit will reveal much about the character of America in the 21st century. If what was once the most prosperous manufacturing city in the nation has been brought to its knees, what does that say about our recent past? And if it can't find a way to get up, what does that say about our future?”

As you read in my book review of Chris Steiner’s book, $20 Per Gallon, the auto industry won’t come back. Immigration will keep pouring more and more uneducated third world immigrants from the Middle East into Detroit — thus creating a beachhead for Islamic hegemony in America. If 50 percent illiteracy continues, we will see more homegrown terrorists spawned out of the Muslim ghettos of Detroit. Illiteracy plus Islam equals walking human bombs. You have already seen it in the Madrid, Spain, London, England and Paris, France with train bombings, subway bombings and riots. As their numbers grow, so will their power to enact their barbaric Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government, first amendment rights and subjugates women to the lowest rungs on the human ladder. (Don't the American women promoting the Left wing agenda see this? It is not affecting them now, but what do they think is going to happen as immigrates approach a 51% majority? Historically, women just recently won the right to vote in 1920. Are we going to let the pendulum swing back the other way?) If the Left wing press dares to print it, we will see more “honor killings” by upset husbands, fathers and brothers that demand subjugation by their daughters, sisters and wives. Muslims prefer beheadings of women to scare the hell out of any other members of their sect and others in society from straying.

Multiculturalism: what a perfect method to kill our language, culture, country, and way of life. A change we can believe in.

  2. Detroit- The blacks got what they wanted, a black man in charge of the city. Even though is he corrupt in every way, the dumb negro's keep voting him in just because he is black.

U.S.A- The blacks got what they wanted, a black man in charge of the country (not because he was qualified in any way, but just because he was black).

  3. They produce crappy cars...

    ... they get crappy neighborhoods

    I see no injustice here.

  4. I also live in Michigan and used to live in Detroit.

After the 1967 riots the whites moved out of the city and ever since there has been black flight also. Some blacks move to the suburbs and many leave the state heading south. This has destroyed the tax base of the city and contributed to its current state of collapse.

Most of the muslims moved into Dearborn years ago and are starting to spread into other suburban areas. While there are Arab muslims who own business like gas stations in the city of Detroit, most are black muslims who are not really aligned with middle eastern islamic groups or thinking. Groups like the Nation of Islam are more of a scam on black people than any sort of danger to white America. Their most famous murder victim was Malcom X.

"dumb negros"?? You poor bastard. You cannot even express yourself without bullshit like that.

  5. I'd like to add that many of the industrial sites, including razed homes are for all practical purposes, hazardous waste sites. These sites will never be cleaned up or used for rebuilding. Too expensive.

Lame ideas from urban planners to convert to farming, forget it, liabilities of eating crops grown on brown fields.

If you want to rebuild a city and expect middle class people to live there, start with a school system.

  6. Some cities like Dallas and Fort Worth Texas have options on the land way outside of the city and can actually annex prosperous suburbs.

Cities that have smart planners and governments can learn from the mistakes of Detroit and avoid many of the problems that destroyed it.

The race riots created extreme racial polarization in the late 1960s and early 1970s. That does not have to happen in other large cities. If all the educated and prosperous people leave an area...it will decline. Detroit has a very stupid city tax, for anyone who works or lives in the city limits. So by moving to the more prosperous suburbs, with better schools and less crime...you can actually pay less in taxes!!! That is insane. The tax burden should be less in the city than the suburbs for both businesses and individuals. Unfortunately the welfare society does not work and city, state and the federal govt will have to make drastic changes in that regard. The teachers unions and city worker unions will have to be countered and most of all... corruption in city govts needs to be rooted out early...before the city is destroyed.

  7. Blaming the immigrants is stupid. There are Immigrants all over the U.S and they seem to be doing fine. You are a racist tool. Maybe the real reason could be The unions and incompetant management at the car companies. ever considered that you fool. Unions Kill every industry they are associated with.

  8. +1. WTF with crap like that? Demeans yourself to speak of blacks that way and undermines otherwise valid criticism of our political system and society. This is not a race issue, it's a cultural, political and sometimes even a religious issue (as it relates to fundamentalism).

I live just outside of Detroit. I visit the casinos downtown every so often to play poker and maybe a baseball game every now and then. Aside from a few select places (sports fields, casinos, a couple museums, and a few bars) the city is depressing and dilapidated. The folks, like myself, who live in the suburbs just look at the actual citizens of Detroit as ignorant and quite frankly, kind of comical. I mean these people just continue to elect completely incompetent criminals to run the city. I think there was one guy, Dennis Archer, who was doing a good job, but he refused to run again (It's anybodies guess why he really chose to not run again). Honestly though, I do hope Detroit can turn itself around, but if the citizens of Detroit continue to elect people that run as the "Hip Hop Mayor" then we may have a long time to wait.

  10. LA and DETROIT are only two cities out of hundereds.

I was raised in NYC, live in Chicago for 9 Years, Lived in Miami for 3 and Now live in SA, texas.

Chicago, is a great city and will never end up like Detroit.

NYC is being run into the ground but WALLSTREET will remain and money will allways be there, unlike Detroit and LA.

Dallas, Houston, even San Antonio are very healthy cities. There are areas of "Minorities" and Poor Hoods.

What happen to detroit is , THE BIG 3. They are dependent upon that income as a key source of rev....Bye bye.

NYC, has issues, as WallStreet was a key revenue builder however, things are changing fast.

It comes down to the Region you are living in right now. As we see this Recession/Depression drag on and people come to reality that things have changed as we know them to be...then the smart people will move into Urban Areas that are doing well and the not so smart and those who are living on HOPE will stay where they are.

    Same thing happened in 1929-1939.

Nothing new, game has not changed.....nor have the rules...people just have a short memory.
