Re: funds, these are lodged with the FCM and as futures accounts are not insured, everything hinges on the financial standing of the FCM.
Just to add, Stocks are covered by SIPC. http://www.sipc.org/index.cfm I believe there are limits to the coverage, you should clarify with your broker.
