  1. Yeah...it's all a bunch of hogwash.

    Try this experiment.

Grab one of the POPULAR astrology books, which has lots
    of details on each sign.

Randomly choose friends at a party, walk up to them, book
in hand, and tell them how amazingly accurate this book is.
    Ask them their sign.

Read the description of their sign to them.
But here is the catch.... don't let them see that your actually
    picking a different random sign.

Then ask them how accurate it was.

You will find that the vast majority of the people consider
    it pretty damn accurate :D

Yes.... i've done this experiment several times.
It clearly shows what's really going on.

I can't believe that any modern day human would believe
    this garbage.

Yes, that's the gravitational pull of the moon at work on the tides and on imbalances of brain fluids or some such thing (the latter which may account for some notable posts), but that's not the same thing as astrology.

  6. Yesterday, I was unusually horny, and yes, this state seems to coincide with the full moon.

I believe the term for it is subcutaneous high tide.

  7. Axe,

Very true. 20/20 did a report on that over a year ago, using university students as their subjects. They each gave their "signs" and their birth date. A few days later, they were given individual reports and told not to discuss them with anyone in the class. They were astonished at the "accuracy" of the report. Then, the students were advised that every report was the same - they all got an identical reading. They were surprised. But not as surprised as when they were next told that the reading was for an inmate on death row. Goes to show how far people will go to connect the dots when they like what they see.

  8. inandlong,

I've heard about that correlation, too. Is there any evidence to support the idea that the behavioral changes are physically induced, or are they possibly the result of a self-fulfilling prophecy? What did the studies conclude?

  9. LOL! My psychology professor did a very similar
experiment in our class back in college.

Except, instead of astrology, he did hand writing analysis.

10 students were picked at random, and had to write
    a little bit about themselves.

Then these 10 notes were given to the hand writing analysis "expert".

The next week, the report came back, which described
    the individuals personalities.

    Each were handed IDENTICAL reports.

Each were asked to rate the accuracy of the report.

The average score was about 9.2!!!

Just goes to show the innate NEED for people to believe in something.
All superstitions and mythical beliefs seem to stem from this.
People sorely lack critical thinking skills.
