Havent read this whole thread but am curious if you have compared results during different times of the day?
bearbelly, I have not performed any real in depth studies concerning time of day. However, I did some brief analysis and there really did not seem to be any correlation with the time of day and this system's results.
What about VIX? When volatility is low, countertrend tends to work better, but when volatility is increasing, shift to trend-following. Good luck.
Hello FrostEngine, Sorry to talk about a thing you may already know. When I start a system, I take care to have at least a capital equal to the margin + 2 times the initial maximum intraday Drawdown. Considering you daytrade ER2, you may have a DD of 2500 $ at least. If you obtain something lower, I think it's not a good idea to rely on it... So you may need at least 2500 + 2 * 2500 = 7500 $ to trade it... at least... In my experience, I've used 8 systems in three years : 2 hit the 2 MIDDs and 6 has gone through 1 MIDD... So be used to lose at least 1000-2000 $ in a few amount of time. A last comment : I changed my systems in late august... I didn't know if I was doing an error but my systems seemed more reliable ... I know now ... I watched the results of my old systems... Sorry to be so negative( I'm experiencing a DD too at the time ).Hope the best.
If you want a positive thing, I am still running one of my initial systems. It's still making 75% of the average yearly backtested results after 3 years...
Hang in there, frosty-- we here wish you the best. You mention not having a whole lot of data to backtest your newest strategy with. One thing you might try is to use data from other contracts including the other eminis and even stocks and options. Though you wouldn't expect these other tests to work nearly as well on a system designed for ER2, there are definitely some characteristics of your strategy that transcend the specific trading vehicle. These "robust" characteristics will show up in these tests on other underlyings. And using other underlyings might even show you what situations would present a challenge to your system. For instance, you might discover that your system has a really hard time with highly-volatile underlyings or perhaps with noisy/gappy stocks. Who knows--you might even find that your systems perform much better on some crazy underlying that you'd never expect to play.
you don't want to insult me, you just say that in your humble opinion i am lying. well, fair enough, this board is so full of spam and semi-spam at times that people get paranoid. and actually i am quite glad that frost did not reply. not easy to convince my people here to help out a startup. something else. i dare to say "shut up", when someone calls me a liar. no hard feelings though, i see your point and the whole thing gives me good reason to unsubscribe the thread. good trading to you.
