It works the basically the same way that it does now. Bunch of people buy "tickets" and if they win they get a million from the pot. $100 million in the pot, 100 winners. $2 million in the pot, 2 winners.

Really? So unless there is only one winning number and one prize, it's just a socialist distribution charade? Even though the expected value for the undertaken "risk" would remain exactly the same?

There are a lot of ways people spend money with a negative expectation.

I play the lotto (maybe average $4 or $5/wk). I look at it purely as entertainment. It's a consumption item, IMO and well within what I can afford to spend on entertainment.

You could easily say anyone that spends a few hundred (or thousands of) dollars/month at bars, or smoking, or dining out, or on designer clothes, or at the nail salon, or in a tanning bed, or what have you is a fool.

Wait. So you are saying scrap the whole pick the numbers thing. Have you thought this through? So let's do an example here. The lottery is 100 million. So you are going to have 100 winners. But 100 winners of what? Are they going to pick numbers? What if one guy picks all the numbers. Where do the other 99 winners come from?

I think what you are saying is simply have the lottery randomly pick 100 people on a 100 million dollar lottery right? No numbers, just pick people. Because otherwise how do you determine the winners. I don't think in the history of the lottery have we had 100 people pick all the numbers.

LOL- Great, the states are thinking of even MORE ways to screw ignorant people. They are talking about letting people use credit cards to buy tickets here in Tennessee.

If you look at the "payout" for the lottery games it would make the Mafia blush. I can't seem to find the story but they were talking about it here and the prize payout was under 25% of ticket sales and one state senator was suggesting THAT was too generous.

Thomas Jefferson once said " “Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry.” I think the "Lottery" is Tyranny as defined by Jefferson. They won't even let "Bingo" to be played here in Tennessee yet they are willing to allow government to fuck the poor and ignorant with the lootery.

Dude, you thinking way too much.

People picking random numbers or people getting picked from a basket of tickets. Same shit. You seem to think picking numbers is some skill. It's all luck.

Yes, one guy only gets one share. Not like in current lottery where he might have 2 winning tickets so he gets 2 shares.

Why do you assume to know better than the states that operate the lotto's what will work best for their operations?

I would be willing to wager that they have statistical proof that large, single-winner jackpots generates the most interest ($$) for lotteries.

As a socialist, you should be anti-lotto because it is a form of wealth distribution that takes money from low and middle income (mostly) and distributes it to the state.

    It's a poor tax basically.

I still don't understand. So you want people to buy tickets and pick numbers and then say, OK, the numbers don't matter. We are just going to randomly pick 100 people from the whole pool of people who bought tickets and give them 1 million each? LOL. Am I getting that right? So again I'm going to ask one more time. Why even bother with the numbers? You know this sounds a lot like Amway. LOL.

Mav, this is what you get, when there is an entire generation of people raised to believe that everyone wins and that there are no winners or losers in any activity in life.

Finish a race, dead last out of 30 kids..... no problem, you still get a ribbon. You're little daughter plays on a softball team that gives up 30 runs/game?.... no worries, they don't keep score.
