Americans have no voice when they are busy looking for work and stressing about the rent, utilities, and even food. "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell "has warned the White House not to strike an agreement [on a relief package]," on the grounds that any new deal struck with Pelosi and the Democrats and "could disrupt the Senate's plans to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court next week." Who the fuck's side are you on, Andrea?
FOX News....CNN....Facebook....there is no right to be claimed as the people running them can do whatever they want. Saying the word Press does not change anything. People need to understand 1st amendment is freedom from GOVERNMENT control/censorship. FOX... FB...Twitter is allowed to do whatever they want with their format as far as what they allow. Still don't understand why people are getting their panties in a bunch and constantly INCORRECTLY claiming freedom of speech as though it applies. There is no legal definition of Press, all media is private and subject to ownership terms and condition.
This is true, but the argument is properly classifying Twitter, FB and the social media platforms in order to apply these rules correctly. That, and of course, the hypocrisy behind it. Twitter has a right to censor anything they want, but they can't call themselves a public forum then. They're a content provider and subject to libel and other lawsuits that come from material posted on their site. If they want to claim to be a public forum, then they are subject to Freedom of Speech checks and balances from what I understand and cannot censor one side or the other. The problem is that Twitter wants the best of both worlds. And the others as well.
I don't support unfettered freedom of speech, and neither does anyone else, or the law. Along with yelling "fire" in a crowded theater, we have libel, slander, "fighting words", inciting to riot, inciting overthrow, threatening the president, and more I'm probably not recalling off the top. Qanon style blah blah that emboldens some nut to go armed and shooting into a pizza parlor needs to be shutthefuckdown.
Gotcha and agreed, thought you were making a different argument in which fox/cnn was running under different rules in the eyes of the government
According to redhats on here, that's conservative censorship that should be allowed to reside on private servers
Public forum is not a legally certified entity or status... it just describes a forum to speak open to the public but often moderated by those who own it. Elite Trader is a public forum... Twitter is not subject to any government regulations on who it decides what to censor or not. Sorry but people are letting their feelings block reality. Twitter and FOX can do whatever they want if they have a terms of service or internal policy and can also change it whenever they want. If you do not like it....don't post on twitter or watch FOX. Sorry Freedom of Speech is not in the constitution for private entities regulating their own sites and the content. Trump cannot say shit about what Baron puts on Elite Trader or what Twitter deems inappropriate to leave up and takes it down. Twitter is GOD as far as content on Twitter. Trump and everyone else have to just man up. I don't see CNN asking the government to tell FOX to stop running certain stories
Sorry but there is not right to freedom of speech in the constitution..... the first amendment says the GOVERNMENT shal not abridge your rights to free speech... Private schools...businesses...media outlets...can moderate their content however they want. Libel and slander laws do not abridge free speech, they simply provide a civil tort remedy to not allow speech that is damaging or intentional. Free speech gets controlled simply due to fear of lawsuits but the courts are very conservative in applying libel and slander laws. You can shout fire in a crowded movie theater but you can also get arrested and fined for doing so. Again that is the GOVERNMENT. If Twitter says it will take down any false allegations about Hunter Biden....well don't go to Twitter anymore. Twitter does not have a monopoly on free speech, it is just a place for self entitled assholes who think their 140 words mean the world to everyone.
