Does this Advanced Scanner work on the Starter Edition? That would add a lot of utility to the product.
Did I do something wrong here, all studies show "Ready Status" No So without paying $39/m, all studies are disabled in multicharts
They should be enabled. You should contact support and they fill fix the issue - http://www.multicharts.com/support/contact/
Just get a free trial of "MultiCharts for TWS" or "MultiCharts .NET for TWS" from the File menu in TWS, currently only in the beta version. More info here - https://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/releaseNotes/Betanotes2.php
Argh, it simply is not functional. 1. Pacing violation issue 2. No studies available When Multicharts is contacted they say this: There has been an issue with the studies in the first beta. Please upgrade to the latest build to get it resolved. But there is no way for a user to upgrade the multicharts version through TWS, as that is the version that is available. When IB is contacted, they say it's not their problem, refuse to acknowledge the situation, contact multicharts in a nut shell, go to hell.
Update, to solve issue (1) above (assuming you run windows): control panel > remove programs > multicharts > choose "repair" option when running the uninstaller. This solved problem in my case. Problem (2) still unresolved (and also data takes forever to load into a chart); probably an issue between IB data feed and multicharts (?)
Your issue with chart loading is not directly a problem with MC, it is a data limitation for API's with IB data. [MC-64 using 3rd party data works very well,] Reference: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/api/apiguide/tables/historical_data_limitations.htm -------- When I initially received Pacing Violations [long before MC.net-IB], I contacted MC and researched the IB website. MC's comments: Interactive Brokers Pacing Violation [MC info] Interactive Brokers has some data request limitations. 1. A single data request cannot return more than 2000 seconds of historical data at once; 2. IB API processes only 60 requests per 10 minutes. If a large amount of data is requested in MultiCharts, a "Pacing Violation" message will be shown in the Event Log of QuoteManager window. It means that the amount of the requests for data exceeds the limitation set by Interactive Brokers. To avoid this situation, please request less data. It is not recommended to request more than 1 day of tick data at once from Interactive Brokers in order to avoid this problem in the future. In case this error occurs, it is recommended not to request more data in MultiCharts and not to change data range for existing charts for at least 10 minutes. Alternatively, IB Trader's Workstation can be restarted. ------- FYI, I have noticed that 5 sec charts & T&S's tend to create pacing violations when opened simultaneously with intra-day, historical charts i.e. opening a workspace with multiple tabs, charts, symbols in quotemanager. As a workaround, I only open T&S's, 5-sec charts after all other charts have loaded and back filled when using IB data. When reloading charts, I wait 10-seconds between "ctrl-R's" Regarding MC.net-IB, it is still in Beta so really no reason to be upset at this stage, I grant you, the Pacing Violations are a nuisance, lets see if MC/IB negotiations lift the restriction. If so then I see the value in obtaining MC-IB in addition to my licensed product, if not I don't see it. For long term analysis, I do not use IB data and subscribe to a data feed.
I'm confused about the limitations and differences with the TWS version of MC.net. Stan, maybe you could explain? Apologies if I've missed something clearly documented but I'm not seeing it... 1) Have you disabled the ability to connect to other data providers? I already have IQFeed that I use for backtesting in other programs, would like to carry that over. I also use Yahoo for some symbols that IB doesn't quote. This would mitigate the dreaded pacing violation messages. 2) Any other functional differences between this special version and the full version? 3) is the $39 monthly fee getting me up to full version or are there still gaps between the versions? Are there integrations in the TWS version that are improvements over what I could do with the full vers + IB? I am not a MC user now, will take a look at it and gladly pay a reasonable fee if it does the job better than WLP 4) Today I got a message saying that "large numbers of positions" are not supported and I'd face stability issues if I proceeded. How much is large? Is it across accounts? For reference, I have 10+ accounts that have on average 50 positions (almost always identical across accounts) so I either have 50+ or 500+ positions depending on your math. I'm probably considered "large" but can you give a firm answer on what # of positions is fully supported?
