Free MultiCharts in TWS !!

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by learner2007, Feb 24, 2014.

  1. Fired up MC.net in TWS but I really don't have clue where to start. My first impression is its wayy more than I need for my very basic needs.

Is there a manual on how to use it? TWS has nothing on its online help which makes me a little nervous.

I guess you have to sub for 39/mth to actually transmit orders from MC.net thru IB?

MultiCharts uses a Wiki as their manual. It tends to be a little disorganized at times, but you should be able to get started with it.
[No reason for IB to duplicate, until they own it, there probably will be a link to it before it leaves Beta...]

For your basic needs, ie. no programming. MC.net is almost identical to MC64, just use MC64 wiki and tutorials for now. It is relatively intuitive to use...

Correct the $39/month activates MC Trading ability

  3. We are working on it. We are writing one as we evaluate the feedback from the first beta testers. Should be available soon!

"MultiCharts for TWS" is a special version that is very tightly integrated. You can do all your analysis and trading, both manual and algo.

  4. There's a free 30 day period after installation during which you can trade, then you have to subscribe, that's correct

  5. When I tried the free Multicharts a few months ago, I couldn't get bars shorter than one minute. I typically use 5-second bars when I use TWS charts. Is there a way to get this with Multicharts?

  6. Yes, 1 second bars and above

  7. NoBias,

Thanks for the very balanced review, it's very refreshing to see that.

Regarding the pacing violation - we are working HARD to reduce that and the effect it has on people. Hopefully, a day soon will come when traders are no longer affected by it, at least in the integrated version.

  8. I am glad IB finally offered a solution like this. I have only tried it for a few minutes, but I have 2 questions/concerns.

    1) IB limits backfill for its API. Will backfill be limited to MC? It is going to be hard to backtest if it is.

    2) If I want to scan the market in real time, I assume I will have to purchase multiple quote boosters. Could be costly. There should be an option to use another datafeed like IQFeed.

  9. we hope both of these concerns will be eliminated. For backfill we are working with IB to solve limitations issues, and for scanning - MultiCharts is able to subscribe and unsubscribe with its new scanner, so you wouldn't need quote boosters.

Stan, first congratulations for doing this :)

What do you mean by "MultiCharts is able to subscribe and unsubscribe with its new scanner, so you wouldn't need quote boosters."

Can you expand on above please. Thanks.
