I will translate the Guardian article: "As print reporters, we realize our day has passed. Who wants a two day old story when they've seen it live. We're upset that we no longer will have the ability to shape stories the way we want people to see them. Those fools will react with pride and patriotism if they follow their troops into battle. Also, we're very disappointed this is going so well for the Americans. Now they will be even more insufferable."
The sad thing is that we can't get impartial reporting anymore because the executives in these mega-conglomerate companies are so afraid of losing the ratings war. It's either too patriotic, too edited, or too bland. Fox has always done a good job of being the first to integrate new technologies and techniques into their broadcasts so that you feel like you're in a Dolby Movie Theatre, but still lacks any in-depth reporting. CNN is just too biased and cautious these days (since they started losing the ratings war). The best war accounts are still on the internet sites. For example, if you watch CNN's streaming videos you see all the stories without the commercials and "personalities". Both cable stations suck, but I like CNN.com.
Trajan, Sting once sang : "There's no such thing as winnable war ... It' s a lie we don't believe anymore". Enjoy your victory !
Wow, he is one of the most profound thinkers of our day. I think I'll ignore reality and slip into the world of make believe in which Sting and his fellow entertainment professionals live. Life is easier that way. There is no need to take on tough challenges, to respond to voices from the oppressed, nor ever leave our Beverly Hills estates. After all, we Americans are arrogantly rich, how dare we deny Saddam's right to be the same.
there is good reason why Fox has kicked CNN's ass. Fox has figured out something that the elitist liberals are too brainwashed to see, which is that the majority of americans are patriotic and like their country. Fox is giving the people what they want, CNN is giving them what THEY think the people SHOULD want, but don't.
Here is an article on a BBC executive discussing the network's coverage of the war. http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,924747,00.html Do you notice where this guy is speaking at? (Hint:look at the last line of the quote) Media people have every right to hold any view and attend any meeting they desire, however they shouldn't claim impartiality. What is most disgusting about the BBC is that people are forced by law to pay for it. We are forced by law through taxes to pay for PBS, but to a much smaller degree. I wonder how people can say that Americans are brainwashed when the typical person saying such things are probably a typical PBS viewer. Let's see, free-market media is brainwashing people while a government run enterprise shows the truth, makes sense to me.
