Time for poster "Beautiful Stranger" to apologize on here for claiming there was widespread election fraud based on absolutely no evidence. This is a test of his character.

I must have at least +20 posters on my "ignore list" just because of their misinformation / disinformation and false narratives here in the Political section where they tend to post so much crap.

The worst ones are the ones that then deny posting such involving anything related to defending Trump and his cult like supporters.

Its like some cult leader told all of his faithful followers to fan out like a bunch of termites and infect any forum they come across with their bullshit. Calling them out is the least I can do as someone that believes in Democracy as an American citizen / veteran that lives abroad.

    Give them no quarter

The legal demise of Newsmax continues. Coupled with being kicked off of many distribution networks & losing revenue, the legal consequences & penalties are likely to put the final nail in the coffin of the network. At this point, it is just a matter of time. Unlike Fox, Newsmax does not have hundreds of millions of dollars available to payout to both Dominion and Smartmatic.

Judge lets Smartmatic expand 2020 election defamation suit against Newsmax
    https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/23/media/smartmatic-newsmax-lawsuit/index.html

Delaware judge on Wednesday rejected Newsmax’s attempt to throw out part of a defamation case brought by the election technology company Smartmatic against the right-wing network.

Smartmatic sued Newsmax after the network repeatedly aired false claims about the 2020 election — specifically the lie that the company’s software was involved in an international plot to rig the presidential election against Donald Trump. The company later updated its lawsuit to add 26 additional examples of alleged defamation, claiming it found the new material during the discovery process, when Newsmax turned over “hundreds of hours” of broadcasts.

Newsmax, a smaller pro-Trump network, denies the allegations.

The ruling on Wednesday from Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis means those additional allegations will remain in the lawsuit, in a blow to Newsmax.

The case is just one of several pending defamation suits tied to Trump’s election lies.

Smartmatic is also suing Fox News for $2.7 billion over the right-wing network’s airing of baseless conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 election. Dominion Voting Systems, another voting technology company that settled a defamation suit against Fox News for a historic $787 million, is also suing Newsmax over the false claims.

Looks like Newsmax will be sued out of existence. It does not have the deep pockets of Fox.

Newsmax has settled with Smartmatic right before the trial was due to start. It will be interesting when the news comes out on how much Newsmax had to pay in this settlement. If the case had gone to trial it is likely that Newsmax would no longer be in existence when forced to pay a large settlement at the conclusion of the trial and appeals.

Newsmax agrees to last-minute settlement with Smartmatic over 2020 election lies: report
    https://www.rawstory.com/newsmax-smartmatic-settlement/

Right-wing cable news network Newsmax has reportedly agreed to a settlement with voting technology company Smartmatic over false claims that it aired in the wake of the 2020 election that accused the firm of "stealing" the election from Donald Trump.

CNN's Marshall Cohen reports that Newsmax and Smartmatic came to terms "in a last-minute agreement to avoid a high-stakes trial that posed a significant financial risk to the cable outlet."

Jury selection was set to begin this week in the Smartmatic defamation case, which has been making its way through the court system since 2021.

Smartmatic and fellow voting tech company Dominion Voting Systems were the targets of pro-Trump disinformation campaigns after the 2020 election.

Dominion settled its lawsuit with Fox News last year in which Fox agreed to pay the company more than $780 million in damages.

Financial terms of the Smartmatic-Newsmax settlement have not been made available at this time.

I think the only reason why Smartmatic settled is because they're being offered a big financial settlement from Newsmax for promotion of Trump's lies plus they know that some of those (lawyers from Trump's inner circle) involved with Trump's BIG LIE have made plea deals to testify against Trump in the remaining criminal trials that will go forward after the November 2024 election.

Further, I wouldn't be surprised if Newsmax and Fox News will be part of the criminal trials in which certain news journalists will admit they were involved in promoting Trump's BIG LIE while knowing it was a lie.

Newsmax and Fox News may even have evidence (e.g. recordings, documents) involving their interaction with the lawyers from Trump's inner circle that can corroborate what the lawyers say in their testimony against Trump.

There is no empathy from me for those in Trump's inner circle, supporters, and the ET members who defended and continue to support Trump's BIG LIE because it's that rhetoric that incited a riot on the U.S. Capitol, Confederate flags entering the U.S. Capitol building that has never happened before, and an attack on Democracy.
