One can admit that America is still the most "freedom loving" nation in world, while simultaneously recognizing that freedom in America has declined a lot since the early 19th century. It is true that freedom has declined elsewhere in the world at a much faster pace than in America, but that is largely due to Washington's counterproductive policy of liberal interventionism that began with the Philippines campaign against the Spanish and escalated under Wilson. Before World War I, complete freedom of speech existed in all Western European countries. Today it no longer exists for "racists", fundamentalists, pedophiles and "haters". And in most of continental Europe, even home-schooling is banned. Before WWI, Christians and Jewish communities in the Middle-East were subjected to periodic persecution and excessive taxation, but managed to preserve freedom of worship and independence from interference with their cultural values until the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Islamic societies, which are traditionally polygamous, have always had a higher risk of violence because of the potential shortage of nubile women. Historically, a wealthy man could have several concubines, while most poor men struggled to find one wife. In such a society, it is very important that girls of poor families are married off at a very young age, preferably before the age of 10, in order to satisfy adult men unable to find a bride of their own age. The wisdom of early arranged marriage of girls is evident to anyone who understands that sexual frustration, and not "ignorance" or "hate" is the primary cause of both terrorism and mass murder, not only in the East but also in the West. Totalitarian child abuse laws allow the US government to dismantle independent communities under the guise of "protecting" children. For example, in 2008, because of one violent and abusive individual 419 children were violently taken away from their parents, and put in foster homes. The government could have just removed the violent individual, but instead profited from the occasion to violate the freedom of association of a whole community that happened to be antagonistic to mainstream society. Extreme pedophobia is contrary to everything the founding fathers of America stood for, in addition to being absurd. I can understand the criminalization of sodomy or intercourse with pre-teen children, because those practices can cause injury and spread disease . But other forms of consensual sex with children, especially if tolerated by the parents, are not evil and can even be virtuous. If a child does not consent, and an individual is bent on abuse, then the parents of the child should restrict the child's contact with the abusive person. The government should have nothing to do with it unless the child is physically hurt, or abducted. My position may sound radical, but it was the norm in the West as recently as two centuries ago. The Mormons of the 19th century were widely despised for their polygamy, but not persecuted by the federal government. In 15th century Italy, Leonardo da Vinci lived and slept with his 10 year old pupil Salai, and painted several portraits of him engaged in sexual activity, one of which still exists. His contemporaries, though a lot more religious than the people today, did not interfere with his personal freedom. Even the Medieval church did not consider seduction of young boys to be a grave sin.
