Former Iranian Leader coming to US - WTF?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by hapaboy, Sep 1, 2006.

  1. So anyone hwo doesn't call for immediate nuclear attacks on Israel and the US is now a "moderate" and a "reformer?" What is he in favor of reforming anyway? The way Iranian leaders are selected, they have to pass muster with the head clerics. If this guy was a reformer or moderate, he would in prison, no t a former president.

What we have here is the old good cop, bad cop routine. Aided and abetted by useful idiots like Carter and the media.

  2. I would have thought so, yeah.

Good point, he would'nt be around if he was actually "progressive"-unless he was a stooge for the us admin, which he appears to have been.
How much clout do "former" leaders actually have?
Is'nt that the crux of the matter, they can say or do whatever, without direct accountability, allowing for more effective diplomatic solutions?

Not that their that great to begin with, but look at bush's effort in various middle east peace summits.
A doco i saw, detailed one such visit, and the word used to describe it was "surreal", sounds about right.

  3. Khatami was a "stooge" for the US administration?
