I file Spot as 1256 contracts, on IRS form 6781, and then Schedule D the same as futures, this has been a controversial topic. According to Greencompany:

"If you don’t elect out of IRC 988, you report your ordinary gain or loss from cash forex as “other income” on Form 1040 (line 21).

If you elect out of IRC 988, add this amount to Form 6781 as “cash forex elected out of IRC 988.” "

Nice job on the thread hijack,
It was not going anywhere anyway!

  2. Question by sim03:
Could you explain step by step how to read your spreadsheet, etc. For example, you've got 2 lines for each currency - what does that mean?

    Hi! Sim:
Initially one line was shown and it was green (L) or red (S) or yellow with letter O. If you wanted to print the spreadsheet with a black and white printer, all boxes will be black and you could not even read the letters. Only a color printer will show the intended signals.
Now the pairs have two lines or boxes:

    a) The upper when filled, purports an UP TREND. If it is GREEN = LONG, if it has an O (Yellow) still trending up but maybe giving up ground and better to stay OUT. (Aggressive people may even enter shorts)

    b) The low part of the box will have something when the pair is TRENDING DOWN. RED = SHORT. O (Yellow) still trending down but starting to reverse or reversing. O = OUT (Aggressive minds may even think going Long)

Ideally, if one is to stay only LONG on GREEN, and SHORT on RED, maybe one will capture part of the UP/DOWN move.

Anyhow, the Signals should be treated as an illustration, not a “Method”.

    Best!
