I'm planning on travel this summer to Europe for 2 months. Is out of country health insurance really necessary? Has anyone ever travelled around Europe, gotten hurt and went to the hospital and had no travel health insurance? What happens in that case? Do they still treat you? Do they send you a bill to America? What kind of recourse would they have if you don't pay the bill?
If you go to a hospital on the weekend in France you might not see a doctor until Monday sometime, they take weekends off... people have died waiting for a doctor, insurance is not going to make much difference...
Seriously, if you ever need anything to get done, ever, don't ask a Frenchman. Thought everyone knew that ...
fwiw, I thought American express had some type of medical travel insurance policy available for overseas travel. I read something somewhere that there are policies to have you flown back home in dire medical circumstances.
