P.S. I am told by a tech support guy at Nvidia that the FX 5500 PCI slot card series would be compatible with my GeForce 8600 GTS.
I don't have any experience with trying to match compatible 2nd cards with gamer cards. You might inquire as to whether any ETers have installed an NVS 280 PCI card with any of the newer Nvidia gamer cards like yours.
This eVGA GeForce 6200 PCI card is looking mighty tastey! Even comes with the lower voltage and lower heat producing DDR-2 memory. Very rare for a PCI slot card! http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=256-P1-N399-LX&pwindow=specs&family= Circuit City has it for $49.99 online vs $99.00 retail: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=193510#prodspecs Wow.
There's a potential problem with adding a 3rd party card. It may also "want" you to install its driver, then you'd have 2 video card drivers installed... always a concern for compatibility.
Understood. The Nvidia tech support guy said that the GeForce 6200 and the FX 5500 would be compatible with my existing PCI-Express GeForce 8600 GTS. We shall see.
yep...ran a nvs 280 with a nvidia 8800gt...works fine now i have a pair of 8800gt in both machines...
I can't believe it. What is comcast's advertised speed? They may have increased their bandwidth recently. Did you go back to the old machine and test the speed again?
