Anybody tried laplink PC mover for XP to W7 - they claim it transfers programs to w7 as working and installed if I have understood correctly. http://www.laplink.com/index.php/individuals/pcmover-for-windows-8/pcmover-home-8 Converted a W7 back to XP due to older program not functioning.
Windows 8 sucks, and indeed Windows 7 is hardly revolutionary compared to Windows XP, but better than Vista. I am using Win 7 and XP and do not plan to abandon XP soon.
I solved the problem by buying a new MAC, disconnecting my XP from the home network, and deleting all WIFI connections. I will restore point and use the old computer as my travel computer with a few modifications. (I did some research on google for "how to protect xp after april 2014") and I know a couple of tricks myself. I was sure to install the final set of windows updates today before it went off line. I have heard arguments both ways. That is what I chose to do. Within the week I will scrub my computer for malware offline and then harden it ready to toss it if it gets hacked. From now on the only net it will go on is the sneaker net (with data keys) and travel. What a great operating system when it first came out.
How to continue getting free security updates for Windows XP -- until 2019 http://betanews.com/2014/05/26/how-...e-security-updates-for-windows-xp-until-2019/ in russian http://www.securitylab.ru/news/453368.php
Thanks, that's interesting. I have people here who installed POSReady and it seems to work equally well. It also doesn't have the bells and whistles of XP so should be a little faster (I prefer lightweight).
