Can't disagree more. Canada extracts resources and cuts trees and grows weed, period. That is it. Nothing else. All else is services: Telecoms, banks, and house flipping. Basically services that are priced through government blessings to exploit Canadians and produce nothing of value other than keeping the Canadian population connected and alive. Regarding Canada's value to the outside of the world, its basically commodities, that is it. All else is domestic transfer from the middle class to a few monopolistic corporations that are tightly connected to the government and get away with charging whatever they choose. The empty pockets of the middle class are then on a frequent basis refilled by taking on ever more debt and distributing it through all sorts of handouts.
Grab any Canadian investing book, and they first thing a newbie learns is that Canadian banks charge the highest fees in the world. How do they get away with it in this day and age? Simple, the Government doesn't want to risk its banks competing with foreign banks. Therefore, you're stuck with only a handful to choose from in the monopoly.

We Canadians are some of the most complacent and easy going creatures in the Western world. I would not be surprised to hear that more Canadians died from a heart attack when they learned of the trucker protests than those who died from covid. Protesting and speaking one's mind and expressing anger about wrongdoing seems to be a sin in this country, at least for a long time now...sticking to the queue and ducking one's head is the mode of the day...that is why bad actors in this country get away with virtually anything. Drug dealers that get found with massive amounts of dope and illegal weapons in this country are not arrested but released and free until their day in court. Most crimes are committed by repeat offenders. Yet, nobody utters a word, nobody expresses their bewilderment and outrage. We pay the highest fees for almost any service in the Western developed world (except skate rink fees) because nobody expresses their desire to want it any other way.

By the way are you talking about the recent winter Olympic games where we Canadians were beaten by a nation in central Europe with very little snow or the tiny nation in Scandinavia that has a small fraction of the people compared to Canada and an even tinier fraction of land?
