As everyone else does, I read the first couple of lines and the last of your posts. Something about smoking being protective. As an ex smoker but starting around 30 I recall no longer getting sore throats. Smoking was initially prescribed for chest infections, there is certainly some beneficial effect but everything in moderation. Dunno, not surprised if the inverse relationship is real but its not going to sell cigarettes.
