Why no hydroxychloroquine? “The White House also provided a brief update on Trump's treatment Friday. Dr. Sean Conley, the president's physician, says that President Trump received an experimental drug made by Regeneron, which contains two antibodies against the coronavirus. The medicine is currently in clinical trials and isn't approved by the Food and Drug and Administration. How the president's medical team got the medicine wasn't disclosed in the statement. In response to NPR's query, Regeneron declined to comment specifically, citing patient confidentiality. But Regeneron said it can make the drug available outside a clinical trial through a "compassionate use program," subject to the OK of a review committee. The drug, called REGN-COV2, is given as a single dose by injection (an infusion). The president received the high dose being tested by the company – 8 grams.” https://www.npr.org/2020/10/02/9196...o-walter-reed-following-coronavirus-diagnosis
Trump "doing very well," has started Remdesivir therapy, White House physician says Remdesivir is usually used in severe cases, but recent trials have shown it's not very effective if at all by the time symptoms develop. In rats, it was completely ineffective by 2 days after infection.
no word on HCQ use yet: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/w...ivir-in-addition-to-regeneron-drug-2020-10-03 White House: Trump given Gilead Sciences' remdesivir, in addition to Regeneron drug White House officials said late Friday that President Donald Trump has received Gilead Sciences Inc.'s GILD, -1.81% remdesivir as part of his COVID-19 treatment plan. Remdesivir was the first new drug to receive an emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration during the pandemic as a treatment for severely ill COVID-19 patients. Clinical studies found it can reduce recovery times for hospitalized patients. Trump announced early Friday morning that he and the First Lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus; since then several White House staffers have also tested positive for COVID-19. On Friday evening, Trump was given Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s REGN, -0.58% neutralizing antibody cocktail, which is still being studied in clinical trials as a treatment for non-hospitalized patients with milder and more moderate forms of the disease. In a letter shared early Saturday morning, Dr. Conley, the president's physician, said Trump had been moved to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and he had also been given remdesivir. Conley said Trump does not require supplemental oxygen.
What I'm looking forward to seeing is how Trump will explain NOT taking hydroxychloroquine if he recovers, after encouraging everyone to take it as both a prophylactic and as a treatment. It should be interesting.
