  1. for republicans the presidential loss is bad but the senate victory is monumental. presidents dont make law. the legislative branches do.

    nothing the republicans want to ram through will get through the senate now. they will have to compromise unless they want to do nothing but run filibusters for the next 4 years:

    Democrat Heidi Heitkamp has won North Dakota's open Senate seat after Rep. Rick Berg (R-N.D.) conceded the race, reports the Associated Press.

    Heitkamp, a former state attorney general, defeated Rep. Rick Berg (R-N.D.) in the hotly contested race to fill the seat of retiring Democrat Kent Conrad.

    Heitkamp's win brings Democratic control of the U.S. Senate to 53 seats, with one Democratic-aligned independent and one independent, Sen.-elect Angus King (I-Me.) who has not announced who he will caucus with but is expected to join Democrats. Republicans will have 45 seats.
