I have to disagree with the whole premise that the GOP needs a moderate stance, to the contrary it's the shifting center that has lost a large chunk of the right at the polls where it counts. If the registered Pubs would have turned out to vote at the minimum turnout we saw in 2008, Romney would be President. However that percentage feels disenfranchised currently with their parties left leaning candidates. Instead of patronizing and caving towards the center, the GOP needs to make it's case for conservatism in a way that pulls it's party right-center instead of center-right. For without it's unified base, there's not enough vote power to break the EC gridlock, only hold it's seats in congress.
