For crying out loud IB ... please release TWS 876

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by kiwi_trader, Sep 9, 2007.

  1. I usually agree with Kiwi's comments, but that doesn't mean I agree with his decision to make them. Kiwi would do all IB customers a service if he could resist the impulse to call every wanker a wanker. It would be better if Kiwi could exercise some restraint and diplomacy, and show some maturity, and defend IB on its detailed technical merits instead of by name-calling. Just because somebody is a wanker doesn't mean it serves our interest, as IB customers, to call him a wanker. But Kiwi rarely pays attention to my suggestions in this regard.

  2. OK. Current status.

And, oldtrader, the word I was looking for is irascible.

It looks like the big issues with 877 may be over (I ran 877.3 (never say I don't try) for the second session without issues).

877, like 876 does solve the problem where backfill bars were incorrectly timestamped (version 872.6 was the last version that hadn't had that fault).

877.0c and earlier still had a problem where, if your exchange was not sending true data (5 second bars) for a period then IB would just stop sending them requiring a disconnect (with loss of realtime data) to restart the truedata feed. This was a problem for asian exchanges that have lunch hours (or 2 for hsi). IB is working on this (and I will test 877.3 for this tomorrow just in case its fixed).

872.6 responds quickly to requests to backfill daily (not intraday) data. 876+ don't respond in the same way and Sierra Chart users in the US perceive it as slow but for me in Australia its stopped. Not sure whether SC has to open up a window or IB has changed something dramatic but everyone knows about it now and seems to be working on it.

I have a commitment from IB to put more into answering queries on their bulletin board.

And someone told me how to run the web tws's the way I want to which is very cool.

So, I'm pretty happy for now and would like to thank IB for how responsive they've been to me (please keep it up though). Over and out from this wanker. It's life Jim but not as we know it. :)

Do you install each new version into a new subdirectory?

  6. Agreed, but what about the issue of the lagging workstation version of TWS ?
Why would they put out a BROWSER-BASED version ahead of the workstation version ?
    Has that been answered ?

So, to wrap up this thread.....

TWS 877.3 still had the crash on order entry after pinkout issue for me.

BUT, this morning there appears to be an 877.4, and I believe 877.4 does finally fix the problem.

There was a problem with 877.3 and the bug was not corrected.
877.4 does include the fix for the crashing bug.
876 will not be promoted to stand-alone.
877 should be released to stand-alone in a few days.
