The Parallels Between Sales and Mass Influence. Trump’s Scalability Struggles:

    Just a two cents thought.

In my new remote creative role* at a Madison Avenue type firm, I’ve recently (had a go years back) seen firsthand how high-level marketers use psychology, data, and mass influence to shape consumer behavior. Essentially, marketers are "salesmen on steroids." They engineer demand at a scale that no individual salesman could replicate, reaching millions with a single campaign. But in comparing the roles of a high-level salesman and a mass-marketer, we encounter some key nuances that highlight why Trump’s sales/branding "style" might work in some areas but falter at true scale.

Ultimately, both salesmen and marketers play essential, but different, roles. The one-on-one skills of a great salesman can still outperform marketing in personalized settings. However, when it comes to mass influence, marketing wins every time, especially when built on an understanding of human psychology and data analytics. These skills require practice and honing, and Trump’s style, while effective in its own right, with a fairly captive audience, struggles to bridge the gap when the rules of scale/integrative bargaining, come into play.

*bucket list thing for me, somebody invited me.
