Actually the USSR had the germans on the run by the time D day took place in Jun 1944. It was the soviets who really defeated the germans. I dont doubt the US would have won all by itself, but history give credit to the USSR.

Anything not written by the Allies. Germany was already on the ropes by the time D-Day happened, thanks to incredible resolve and sacrifice on the part of the Soviets. Somewhere north of 80% of all German casualties in all of World War 2 were caused by the Soviets, on the Eastern Front. It was a meat grinder that makes D-Day look like a Sunday afternoon picnic.
