Good thing this is all coming out after the election!

And we thought last month's delayed foodstamp data was bad. The just reported foodstamp number for September was a doozy, with 607,544 new Americans becoming eligible for foodstamps, as a record 47.7 million Americans are now living in poverty at least according to the USDA. The monthly increase was the highest since May 2011, and with August's 421K new impoverished America, over 1 million Americans made the EBT card their new best friend. It is unclear just which atmospheric phenomenon will get the blame for this unprecedented surge in poverty, which comes at a time when the pre-election economic data euphoria was adamant that the US economy was on an escape velocity to utopia. Instead what we do know is that in August and September, over three times as many foodstamp recipients were add to the economy as jobs (324,000). We also know that with the imminent impact of Sandy, which will send foodstamp recipients soaring, it is now looking quite possible that the US may end 2012 with just over a mindboggling 50 million Americans living in absolute poverty and collecting the $134.29 average monthly benefit per person, instead of working. Welcome to the recovery indeed.

Foodstamps at the household level rose to a record 24 million:

Aggregating foodstamp, disability and nonfarm payrolls data shows that since the start of the Depression in December 2007, 21.8 million Americans have shifted more or less permanently to the entitlement line, even as the US still has to generate 4.4 million jobs just to break even.

And the same shown on a monthly basis:

  2. More people added to the foodstamp rolls than jobs created...that's a trend that I believe will continue for years and years to come.

  3. Of course. It's Odumbo's plan to "fundamentally transform America".

  4. Lemon socialism. Pay low wages, let taxpayers fund the other half of the missing wages.

Oh yeah? And what happens when you run out of taxpayers?

  6. Simple. Get rid of Foodstamps/Medicaid and welfare.

Then Walmart will have to pay higher wages since the government will n o longer pick up the rest of the tab.

All taxpayers should be issued their own EBT foodstamp card. Let's make foodstamps a God given right. I want an EBT card so I can live high on the hog, too! Are you listening Obama? No, I didn't vote for you but I will when you run in 2016 if you give me enough freebies.

BTW, thanks for the $6,500 check when I bought my house a couple years ago. That was great! Way to go. But, that was a long time ago, give me some more money and stuff. :D

  8. Walmart doesn't "have" to do anything you leftist dolt.

  9. Nearly 50 million people in the U.S. on food stamps.

Damn. There's only 314 million of us. So that's about one out of 6 people.

I looked up the rules. You have to have a net worth of less than $3,000 to get food stamps! If you've even got a reliable car to go down and pick up the food stamps, you can't get them. Your car's probably worth $3,000.

By the way, why don't ALL young people with student debt get food stamps?? Even if you're making the national average of 49k right away, you've still probably got a negative net worth because of outstanding loans.

  10. And we can thank Bush & Co for that. An unfunded unneeded war, tax breaks that mostly benefited the wealthy, letting Wall St and the big banks run amok. The GOP got just what they wanted. Their plan is working out just fine. Bankrupt the nation and force cuts to social programs. Bush and the neo-con GOP were a fucking disaster for this country. And now the ignorant, irrational and deluded right are blaming Obama, immigrants, atheists and liberals. Anything but the real reasons. Because that what Fox News tells them. Enter the Tea Party to further obstruct progress and screw things up.
