Marks Takes Travel Industry Case to Congress During a Capitol Hill hearing Thursday titled, "Striking a Balance between Homeland Security and a Healthy Economy," TIA National Chair John Marks, president & CEO, San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau testified on behalf of the travel industry. Marks sought Congressional support for the travel industry's efforts to shield ailing international markets from the negative impacts of new Administration decisions regarding visas and passports. "The U.S. travel industry is struggling to survive in an environment where international travel to the U.S. is down nearly 20 percent since the terrorist attacks of September 2001," Marks testified before the House Committee on Government Reform. He called on the Administration to delay certain decisions until sufficient resources are available to make the policies effective. And he sought more government consultation with the travel industry. The testimony is the latest action in an ongoing campaign for federal policies that provide strong homeland and economic security.
