America has a long history of battling the commies in Latin America. While one can successfully argue that communism is inferior to capitalism (believe me, I agree), would we not have been better off letting failed states figure it out for themselves? Sure we could've seen mass genocide (a hallmark of communism) and armed conflict, but we may have seen peaceful dissolution just the same (ie USSR and many satellite states). And let's not act like all socialist countries are all that bad; the Scandinavian model may have been the end result in Latin America for some of these countries.
