    Edil,

Thanks for the information. That's not good news. I guess I'll see how it's working in a few weeks (I have 30 days to return it without any hassle). Let me know if you have trouble again.

I'm glad I started this thread. There sure have been some great responses.

I too have heard nasty things about the 18.1" SONY monitors. All those vertical line would be enough for me to throw the thing out the window. And to think - more than one time. Wow !

I have a friend who is a big time ($$) trader and he uses a set-up consisting of (3) 17" NEC's - the ones mentioned in the previous thread. He says they're fantastic and the don't give him the eye strain from past CRT monitors.

I hope someone comes along and says they've been using monitor "ABC" soooo long and they love it. I guess time will tell. I must admit however, the 17" NEC has been ringing in my ear as the monior to get from many different people.

Thanks again to all the "elitees" who contributed.

    What a great site:D

I use 4 nec 2010 LCD's on an Ergotron Deskstand 100. If you really want to spend some money on LCD's you can check out http://www.9xmedia.com ....they have the BEST digital monitors in the market, but they are extremely pricey!!

You can pick up nec 2010 monitors right now at http://www.tigerdirect.com for $999 each. That's a super deal for 20" monitors (however, the monitors at TigerDirect are recertified monitors, but they carry a 1year nec warranty.

check out these links also: http://www.multiplemonitors.org
    http://www.ergotron.com

    hope that info helps.

  5. those 20 inchers for $999 are sweet if clear & sharp.

i use four CRISP 17" LCDs, i paid only $599 each brand new. (two of these almost as cheap as the refurbished nec)

i can't wait for the day of the THIRTY INCH lcd. that would be sweeeet.

I wonder when the larger screen LCD prices are going to drop like the CRT's did. Seems like all the new stuff if getting more pricey.

  7. Actually, prices have come down quite a bit for LCDs. 15" screens used to go for $1000, now they go for $500. 17" screens used to go for $2500 or more, now they're under $1000. They seem to have more problems though. Hopefully, prices will continue to drop. I hope they improve on the reliability. I haven't made the jump to LCD yet, but I plan to.

  8. PCWorld had these 17" LCD monitors as their highest rated. They accept both analog and digital feeds. From what I've heard, digital is the way to go. I'm thinking of picking up a couple of these. I believe they go for about $775-800 each. :D

I don't believe anything that PCWorld publishes - just take a look at the number of ViewSonic advertisements all over their magazines.

Every time I have put a ViewSonic up against another first rate monitor, they come in third or fourth.

FWIW, the monitor is the most subjective piece of hardware - there is nothing like sitting in front of them and seeing which one you like. I own four 18" digital flat panels, and two 15" analog flat panels. The digitals are terrific. Today, there are 400:1 contrast versions of my digital monitors. Oh my...
