We have seen the ECB recently raise interest rates to save the decline of the EUR against the USD. That is the manipulation that you can see as something evident. The Forex market is an OTC market, that means that the real value of a currency is not always displayed in real time and sudden changes in price can happen when trades that have been happening over the counter get to the public market. You are talking about a manipulation that is at the Trillion level, the Forex market is supposed to be the only market that cannot be manipulated, but if you can prove that certain banks can cooperate to modify the price then you can prove that everything can be manipulated.
Good answer. Thanks. And ECB does not unwind their positions so the strengthen of the USD to the EUR will continue ? I think so, lets see tomorrow CPI data. They should be stronger than expected because of the inertia. So shorting EU and GU could be good for the next hours and days. Second, I know the liquidity in FX market. Recently I read an article that retail volume in Spot Forex from retail traders is already at 18% now. So they can move something in total. It is also common knowledge that leading big banks in the FX space manipulated the Fixing of FX. But I do not know if it makes sense to look at it now, if that kind of action still takes place ? Or is is just a waste of time to look at. But as I know the SNB watching could be very fruitful, actually I cannot guess any systematic behavior here, when they move CHF related currencies by 30 to 50 pips intraday on some days. I want to add Maxingers comment, that I am not fearful and I am also looking for additional moves which could complement any intraday trading of Spot FX. If someone could figure out a certain move because of this manipulation...my ears are open to listen here.
Well, there is a clear message from the ECB that they don't want the EUR to fall beyond the parity with the USD, so that is a clear indicator that if you see a drop in price in the EURUSD pair you can expect the ECB to step in and pump it up. I believe that is something that every Forex Trader has in mind already. I guess you can look at the same dynamics with the FED and the BOC, among the three they will be trying to control the price of their currencies
Ok, anything with a more short term effect, you can say ? Because I am mostly intraday trading only. Something that happens every (other) day for X pips as an example ? By the way, actually I cannot imagine how the ECB could move the EURUSD for longer moves, except some intraday spikes. What do you think here ? I think it is already all priced in actual levels and EU could come down and even go below parity. I do not think it would be possible for the ECB to prevent that. Anything else should be very costly and stupid I mean.
You can work out disparities in the Forex market by using pairs that are strongly correlated. As an example you can take the USD as the central currency, and take two pairs that are correlated, let's say EURUSD and GBPUSD. If you can plot both charts on the same layout you will be able to see opportunities on the EURGBP market. A break in correlation will tell you an odd event.
This is a thread that I started a while ago, it is not too long but had a few replies there, I don't do Forex, so someone else would have to step in with more ideas. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/micro-eur-usd-futures.364985/#post-5544303
I see you are really not into Forex market. That is something very common that such comments from central banks do move the market a lot. But I was not looking so much into news trading at all. I do not find it really consistent in any strategy here, from what I have experienced. Today it was about the 'UK plans for potential power cuts to industries and homes in January.' that pushed cable down about 40 pips at once and then some more in the late hours here. But I find it difficult to systematize such news events, and calculate how much do they move a currency. So I am looking for something else. Like the everyday still possible Fixing manipulation, if it still happens ?
Talk's cheap. Actions speak louder than words Mute uh imean TrA. What have you discovered when you 'look' here? Get back to us some day... lol.
